Trees surrounded the eerie sandy path. Long branches hung over the path, shadows like claws. The girl slowly walked, footsteps embedding in the damp sand below her. A dim light casted off the vintage latern the girl held. Fireflies flew close to the light that illuminated onto the ground below her, drinking in the light provided from the latern.
Salt hung in the air. A strong and rich aroma. Branches caught on the girl's faded white night gown, pulling down and ripping into the flesh on her skin. Blood arose from her leg and slowly trickled down. But the girl paid no mind to her wound. Too much in a hurry to where she was going to pay the slightest bit of attention to the slight sting of her leg.
Waves crashed onto the shore and water sprayed into the air. The air was cold and humid, leaving goosebumps on the girls exposed legs and arms.
And she knew she shouldn't be here. She knew the stories and the tales. But she was curious. So, so curious. And she had to see it herself.
Her jet black hair swished around her with the wind; strands going out in a different directions around her. Wet sand spread around her bare feet and smooshed in between her toes. She prepared to take another step when cold skin grabbed onto her ankle. A blood curdling scream clawed out of the girl's throat as she was hauled onto the ground. Pain erupted from her body while sand sprayed out all around her.
She screamed and thrashed around. Water lapped around her body and hot tears streamed down her pale cheeks. Her hands fisted into the sand, digging out chunks of wet sand and broken seashells; that dug into the hands and broke the skin.
Her lungs screamed and begged for air. A numb feeling spread through her chest and spread throughout her body.
The aggressive and unforgiving ocean took her, night gown wet and only pushing her down more.
It was too cold for angels to fly. All angels die.
