The ride back to their hotel was pretty quiet, though Lindsey held her close to him. When they finally arrived back to their room she immediately started changing, still saying nothing. She walked into the bathroom to perform her nightly ritual. Lindsey, tired of all the silence, of wondering what she was thinking went into bathroom and sat on the counter. "Are you OK Stevie? You're never this quiet really." he said. "I'm fine really. Just a little surprised but honestly I just want to move on. I couldn't care less about any of that nonsense. And honestly, I'm very tired. With everything going on within the band lately, the tour, and promoting my album, I'm exhausted. But at least I get to come back to you every night. Well, at least for tonight. I'm so used to being together I don't know what I'm going to do with myself tomorrow when you're gone." she said quickly. She did have a lot weighing on her and he could see her getting more exhausted every day. Her makeup wasn't hiding the circles under her eyes lately, not that he would ever tell her. He watched her as she applied the moisturizer to her face. "It's only for one night though. Then we'll have two days at home to relax." he offered. "Yeah right. We're getting the kids right?" she asked. "Yeah we are but it will be fine. I guess all there is for you to do tomorrow is try to get plenty of sleep because you're not going to get much tonight." he said and quickly picked her up and carried her into their room.
They had finally gone to sleep after 3 and now here it was 7 and he was going to have to get up and catch a flight at 10. He had court at 3 that he would have to be at. He watched her sleeping peacefully in his arms and it took everything he had to pull his arms away from her. He thought he could probably stay this way for most of the time and he would never tire of it. He tried to be careful not to wake her but as soon as his arms left contact with her body she started to stir. "Go back to sleep baby, you haven't been sleeping long. I'll wake you before I leave." he said softly. She pulled him back down to her placing a kiss on his lips and wrapping her arms around him. He could easily get away from her grip if he wanted but he didn't want to go. "Don't go. Stay here with me." she muttered sleepily. "I'll stay but that means I won't be progressing in my divorce any and the longer it will take for us to finally get married." he said, knowing she wouldn't disagree with that. "Oh, so you want to marry me?" she joked. "Well, you know, I'm 65 and I really have to start working on my bucket list and I'm pretty sure finally making Stevie Nicks a Buckingham is at the top of it." he teased her. "Ah yes, well we couldn't leave your bucket list unfinished now could we? But we're getting one thing straight right now...I am not changing my name." she said mock seriously. "Oh of course not. I really need a shower." he said and kissed her forehead before finally getting up.
He let the water in the shower run over him and got lost in his thoughts. They had been joking earlier but there was some seriousness to it. He was getting closer than he had been in a very long time to making Stevie his wife. He wanted it with everything he had. He was surprised when the shower door opened. Stevie stepped in and he smiled at her. "I got lonely and well I'll have to take a shower at some point today anyway, so I figured, two for one?" she laughed. She was still so adorable to him. He kissed her, knowing exactly why she came to the shower. When she eagerly returned it he lifted her up and moaned as her legs wrapped around his waist. He positioned her back against the shower wall and let his hands roam, satisfied by her response to him. When he finally entered her the feeling was explosive to both of them and their lovemaking more passionate than the night before if that was even possible. He felt her nails claw across his back and he knew it would probably be a little sore later, right now it felt good and he knew it meant she felt great and that was even better and satisfying to him. He knew they would only be apart for one day but he felt regretful as he put her back on her feet. They finished their shower and reluctantly separated to get dressed.
She had barely gotten her robe on and Lindsey was sorting through his suitcase when there was a knock at the door. She opened it and saw Karen. "Have I like died or something? Because the last thing I expected was to come in here and see you up and showered at 8:30 in the morning. I thought I was going to have to drag your ass out of bed." Karen told her. "You're so hilarious Karen. Why would you be waking me up now? I don't have to do anything until 1?" Stevie asked, confused. "Well, your radio appearance asked if we could change it to 10, which should only take you about an hour. Then you could do your small appearances at the station earlier and then Fallon at 1, which would then be the last thing you would have to do today. Which means you could by on a flight to LA around 4 or 5 and get to sleep in tomorrow rather than the 9 am flight. I agreed to the change because I thought you would rather do that anyway." Karen said hurriedly. "That would be great Stevie." Lindsey said grinning at her. He knew he would probably need her today after the stress of court. He didn't think it would really be much of a battle but he didn't like these kinds of things and she always made it better. "It would be, but there is no way I am going to be able to be ready for appearances in an hour and a half. Look at me, I just got out of the shower!" she exclaimed. "That's why your hairstylist and makeup artist are outside waiting for you. I've got your outfit here and I'll pack while you're getting ready." Karen explained. "Ok, sorry, the change just seemed a little overwhelming but it's good. Let me go in the other room to get dressed and you go ahead and let them in to get their stuff setup." she said and started back, looking at Lindsey, realizing he was still just wearing a towel around his waist. "Lindsey, you'll come with me and get dressed as well. It's bad enough my assistant is here, I don't need my stylists seeing what you have to offer." Stevie told him. "Yes, take him away, I'm sure no one will be able to resist him if they saw him like this." Karen laughed. Stevie narrowed her eyes playfully but Karen wasn't sure she was completely joking. "Kidding Stevie. But seriously, just getting dressed you two, we have a tight schedule and Buckingham your ass should already be on the way to the airport." Karen said before Stevie closed the door behind them. She dressed quickly while he took his time, mainly watching her. "Baby, really you have to get ready, you can't be late for this." she said before leaving the room to start getting ready.
By the time he finally was ready she was already fully into preparation to be "Stevie Nicks". She had to look a certain way, be a certain way, and in a way he liked that. Really what everyone else saw was just an enhanced version of herself but he liked that how she really was was private and that he could keep it for himself. She wasn't fake, he just couldn't explain it but she had been this way since 1976 or 77 probably. "Lindsey, I packed the rest of your things and called a car. Now, really, you need to get out of here so you don't miss your flight!" Karen said insistenly while handing him his bag. "Thanks Karen." he replied. He looked over at Stevie, who had her eyes closed while her makeup was being applied. He came up silently and kissed her lips and the look of surprise on her face was priceless. "Lindsey you scared me!" Stevie said as he laughed loudly. "Who else did you think it would be?" Karen asked, everyone still laughing. "Well, I don't know I just certainly wasn't expecting that!" Stevie said, still surprised. "Hmmm. I'm going to have to keep a closer eye on all of you if Stevie was really that surprised that it was me. Hands off my woman while I'm gone." Lindsey said playfully. "Shut up Buckingham!" Karen laughed. "I've got my eye on you Karen." Lindsey replied. "Alright, alright, enough. Excuse me for a moment." Stevie said, standing up. "Where are you going?" Karen asked. "I'm going to walk Lindsey out and would like a little privacy Karen." "Oh Christ Stevie, you're going to see him tonight." Karen muttered. "I heard that." Stevie called.
"Well anyway. Good luck today. Call Karen or text to talk to me and let me know when you get there and how everything goes and I'll let you know before I leave here and I'll see you tonight OK? I know you're nervous and don't like this kind of stuff but I promise, it's going to be fine. You are a fantastic father and financially it doesn't matter what she gets, we'll always have more than we'll ever need." Stevie reassured him, as she had her arms wrapped around his neck. "I know, I know. I just hate this stuff and I wish you were coming with me." he whined. "I know, I do too, baby but I have this and we both know I couldn't go to court with you. It's going to be fine. I'll probably be home not much later than you. But you really have to go Lindsey. Everything will be fine. I love you so much." she told him. "I love you too baby, I'll talk to you soon." he said and pulled her closer to kiss her. He finally pulled away and left and knew it was time to go face reality. This was going to be fucking terrible but at least he would have her to come home to.
