TWO YEARS EARLIER
"i feel sorry for her," they whispered in the halls while i aimlessly looked around at the walls, trying to find a distraction.
"you would be so pretty if you lost a little bit of weight," my so-called friends would group together, nodding their heads like plastic toys to each statement of 'advice' given by one of them. each one directed towards me. each one hurt a little more than the previous string of words.
but i'd smile. smile so my sparkling white teeth would shine through my shadowed feelings. they liked my smile. they called it perfect, even though my mouth quivered while i forced the smile.
"i'm sorry, i'm trying harder these days. i've been working out," a cheery, soft tone was exhaled into the air like on a cold, snowy day. a voice that didn't sound like mine. it wasn't a lie. i really was trying to lose weight.
"good, or we'd have to put you through a surgery or something," someone chirped aloud, a joke that made everyone laugh. everyone including me, even if it sounded like one of my worst nightmares.
"like plastic surgery!" another girl giggled.
maybe it wasn't that bad of an idea after all. they wouldn't have to nag me about losing weight anymore, right?
