Layla
I don't wanna go to school, a new school, I can't do this. I've already had enough of people saying 'look at the new girl', 'there's a new girl' and other stupid comments like that.
"Layla what I tell you about working extra shifts on school nights?" My mother said, sitting down on my bed.
I groaned tiredly, pulling my blankets over my head. "Just 5 more minutes mom."
"Layla. Come on now. You don't need to be working 20 hours at a restaurant opened for 12. That's a little insane don't you think?"
I let out a tired chuckle. "I know, I'm sorry." I threw my blanket off my body and began to stretch out.
"Well now that you're getting up, get ready and I'll drive you on my way to work alright?" She stood up, pulling me up along with her.
"Alright." She pecked my forehead.
"Baby, you need a shower." She scrunched her nose.
"I showered right before I went to bed." I raised an eyebrow while I smelled myself.
"And that morning breath babygirl, jeesh." She smiled teasingly, making her way to the door.
I sucked my teeth, fanning her off. "You're foul."
"I'm just kidding- Oh and if you don't mind, could you dress Desy? Like a simple shirt and jeans?"
"Sure."
"Thank you Lay, I love you!" She flashed me a smile before exiting, shutting the door behind her.
And with that I began to get ready for school. I hopped in the shower, washing yesterday's sweat and tears off my body. When I got out, I began to get ready for the day.
It doesn't take me long, I've learned to be ready on a time limit with how thin my fathers patience runs at the restaurant.
I live 20 minutes away. So I don't know why he's so impatient. Maybe it's just something he was born with.
I don't mind it though, it keeps me on my toes but it's just like being a slave. It gets annoying sometimes but I like the thought of going to college too much to say fuck it and leave.
"Bye Desy." I waved at my younger sister.
"I scared. I not see you all day!" She said before dramatically throwing her hands in the air.
I laughed. "I know but you'll see me after practice drama queen."
"Awwe okay... I wuv you Lay." She kissed my cheek softly.
"I love you too."
I pulled myself out the back window, my mother closing it right after. I fixed the placement of my bag and began making my way to the front entrance doors of my school.
"I love you babygirl. Have a good day and ya' ass better be home when I get there." I chuckled.
"Yes momma.. love you."
I sighed, letting out a slight feeling of nervousness before approaching the doors. When I walked in, I head straight for the cafeteria.
I ate until the first bell rang, indicating I had 5 minutes to get to class.
It's the first day of my Junior year, nothing big. It's crazy how many freshmen are frantically running around.
