Destiny has an odd way of bringing you to where you need to be. One might think that a door has sealed and drown themselves in the finality of that feeling but they might never understand just why that door had to close until their destiny leads them to the point where they look back and realize why certain things had to happen, why they had to face the darkness and the despair and think, I was a fool not to believe in the path set out for me.
It was something that my father always told me, when my brother would cut me during sparring practice, when I would not perform well on a test, when I learned that I was a dormant wolf or when I would sit under the stars and ask about my mother, a woman from a fairytale, one I had never met but always imagined.
I wondered what my father would make of me now, walking in the snow blindfolded, gagged and with my arms tied behind my back, accused of a murder I could never commit.
Adas and Atticus were my guards, entrusted with the job to take me to Azura, home of the Vasilias, and overlook my execution. The people of Malu had dressed me in chiffon the color of the sweetest sunset, it was meant to be the last mercy the people of Malu gave to murderers, and might as well be in the heat of summers, but in the winters it was nothing more than a curse, the only human offering that the people had made was of sturdy snow boots.
Every few hours we would rest, Adas would feed me stale bread and cheese and wrap a warm blanket around me, much to Atticus's dismay, if it were up to him I would die of hypothermia way before we ever reached Azura.
It was on one of these little rest stops that Adas removed my gag and spoke to me.
"I know that you did not kill Raiden" he said. "it doesn't matter what you think Adas" my voice was rusty with disuse.
"I do not understand why you do not fight for your innocence"
"I have no one, nothing left to fight for and I wish to end my misery"
"You will always have something to fight for young one, you just have to find it "
His words were true but my heart had turned to barren ice quite like my surroundings.
However I asked one question, something that had been gnawing at me for most of our journey.
"What happens if the Vasilias deems me innocent?"
"Nothing, we will bring you back home." He said it with so much ease, home, but Malu was not my home, it was nothing more than a residence, a place where the alpha had allowed me and my brother to stay, kind enough to ignore that I could not shift, but the people had not been so forgiving, had thought me weak and unfit to live amongst them. They had made my life miserable for most of my stay, except a few, who had not seen me as a weakling unable to protect myself, who had seen that I could wield my weapons with as much dexterity as they could use their teeth and claws.
But none of that matter if I was brought back, even if I was deemed innocent by the Vasilias the people of Malu would ruin mefor the rest of my existence, maybe even the few friends I did have would turntheir backs on me. I would rather be six feet under than have to go back to theplace where I lost the last of my family, my only reason for enduring Malu.
