          “Stay back child!”
With a small, swift movement, I pivoted my tiny paw backwards until my dark eyes locked with my mother’s.
“Sorry Mama…” I mumbled, my head slowly moving down. The look on her face dreaded disappointment. I gazed at her, my dark blue eyes staring into the light blue of her own.
Her face softened faster than a hungry wolf can eat a deer. Mission accomplished?
“Stop staring at me with those eyes of yours,” She whispered, her soft face letting out a sigh even softer.
I stared at her with a confusion mixed with sadness look. I was surprised by my own expression, but the same one remained. My head fell, and my heart clutched onto something I couldn’t see. I felt sad. I never really knew my father, the only thing I knew for sure about him was that he had the same dark blue eyes as me.
I held my heart inside my chest. Mama’s heart ached with sadness, for I could feel it within her. And according to some of my pack members, Papa was stronger than alpha SorePaw. It doesn’t make sense as to why he’d leave us! why Why did SorePaw take his place? Why couldn’t my Mama? Or Sister Belle?
“Kai!” I turned to the voice of a wolf in the distance.
“Sister Belle!” I ran to my sister with full force, knocking her to the ground. I cuddled next to her, happy that she came back.
          “Why are you so happy?”
“Because you came back! Unlike Papa…”  I whispered the last two words, for I didn’t want Big Sister Belle upset for me and Mama.
“I only went out for a hunt, speaking of which you should go to the kill pile, you know, before it’s gone. I’ll race you!” Her words always made me happy, like when the wolf prince meets his maiden. Except she’s big sister. “You’re on!” I said with a contagious smile across my face.

“Kai, I’d like to talk to you,” I stopped feasting on the oversized moose me and a couple pack members shared, I shifted my head backwards. “...?” I questioned as I trotted towards him with my head weighing slightly to the side.
“Well, um, you’re a Night Howler….” He mumbled almost silently.
I stared at him, and tried my hardest to hold back a nearby laugh. Night Howler? Pfft, what is that?
“What the heck is that?” I asked sort of serious.
“Uh, well, a night Howler is a wolf, that is stronger than the average wolf…” I became wide-eyed and very curious. Papa was strong too, so I wonder…                                                                                                               “Was Papa a Night Howler too!?” I blurted, even though he already knew what I was going to ask,
“Yes, but no at the same time,” Alpha SorePaw said, I stared at him as he continued, “You’re Father was half Night Howler, which means he can’t transform like you can…” His sentence was trailed, and I could sense every wolves' eyes on me. All of a sudden alpha SorePaw's giant paw slid in front of him, and his massive head fell a slave to the grass stained ground. My heartbeat stopped in my small chest, and I felt like curling up in a corner. SorePaw was bowing-- to me? A pup that can barely stand on his own four paws? A pup that stills hangs around with his mother? A pup who isn’t even strong?
I pivoted a paw backward, then another, then another. My tail hit a nearby rock stained wall, a shiver scanned my body, like someone was watching me. To my insecure thinking, they were, the whole pack seemed as if they knew what was happening. Darkness covered the damp sky as I saw SorePaw stand back up. He walked towards me as if he had just seen the creator of wolves, a heavenly body that he must touch... When he got to close, I snapped at him, my jaws clamping together, my eyes staring him down as if he were prey.
Taking a brave glance at the sky, it was almost fully covered with the darkness. All of a sudden, my heart started a symphony in my chest, I felt pain spread throughout my body.
“It's been exactly a year since your fathers death…Sorry Kai…”
