A small boy of twelve stood atop his small wooden cottage out looking the desert waist land stretching before him. In the distance he could see the town, people from all over the world were coming to the town for its first ever Caravan Festival. The boy was bound with endless energy, his gypsy stile dress blowing frantically in the wind and his long silver hair bellowing about like a ghost dancing in the desert, His bright blue eyes dancing with excitement today was the day he was going to get to go to a festival! Running energetically to the edge the roof he tries to climb his way down but looses grasp of the edge of the shingles and falls into the sand bellow however this little mishap wasn't going to stop him, he rushes inside to where his mother was treating an elderly woman. He watched with eagerness as his mother cover the elderly woman's leg in salve then put fresh bandages on it "Now misses Lordfeild, i know you feel young and sprightly but do remember your well over 70 of years! Tis not the age one can jump around like a young girl anymore." The old woman cackles like a witch "oh Minerva please, i still have a good 10 years left and id wager" she glances at lumos with a playful smile and a gleam in her eye "id have twice as much with your mother around don't ya think little Moonlight ehehehe" the boy giggles with the elderly lady as she gets up "you two should come to the festival, i hear its going to be something special for sure! People from all over the worlds coming to, can ya believe it Minerva little old Passer town a holder of such a great festival bahahaha! You've been here about as long as the town has i bet even your surprised ohohoho" Minerva shakes her head with a smile but the look in her eye was familiar to the boy "oh ill think about it, now you go on and go whilst the suns still shines, partake and be merry at the festival! but remember your not a young girl!" the old lady laughs and walks out but not before slipping the boy some candy.
The boy waits for the elderly woman to leave before he bounds over to his mother who was putting up her long silver hair in a long pony tail, he bounced around her like baby chicks to a mother hen "mom! mom! hay! So when are we going, i really really wanna go! There is so many people outside why i think i even saw a dragon mom!" Minerva tsks and looks down at her son with a sort of playful smile "a dragon you say?! Now what on earth would such a noble beast be doing here Lumos?! why i dare say i t would be unwise for me to let my child who acts like a natural disaster to pester such a powerful creature!" she said mockingly her silver eyes gleaming with playfulness as she moved around the cabin in her black and silver dress putting things away and getting out the cooking wares, Lumos pouted chasing her around the house "but mom its a dragon! I wanna go see it! Plus i hear they got awesome food and some sort of music thing!" he tugged at his mothers dress until she looked at him. Minerva frowned and got down on her knees petting his head "hay kiddo, i know you really wanna go but... with the possibility of Feral Teifilings or some other group of rather malicious individuals showing up in town you can't go out there, if they were to sense the magic inside you or worse recognize me then our peaceful life would be over, not only that but you could be in so much danger!" she hugged him and the heavy scent of lilac and lavender smothered his nostrils to the point he sneezes, which in returned got a groan from his mom "thanks you little snot monster." she kissed his forehead and goes to begin cooking dinner. Lumos pouts and looks out the window, the sun was setting meaning the festival has been going on for hours now, he went and jumped up on the stone counter "mommy please! Ill do some more chores! ill um, go pick the Dragon Lillies or um, ill go slay some zombies with you! Or um" he frowns thinking hard about some of the things his mother does then smiles "or clean misses Portiua's feet!" Minerva sighs and puts her left hand on her hip glancing at Lumos with an arched eyebrow "really? clean her feet? Id never put you through such a nightmare Lumos, id much sooner show you what Limbo or the Nine Hells look like then let you anywhere near that woman's feet. The answer is no, now go wash up and make sure the chickens haven't been devoured by some weird sand monster, it'll be the fourth one this week." She spoke sternly but with clear compassion as she went back to shucking the vegetables. Lumos pouted but jumped down to the floor and walked back outside to do as he was asked, he stopped when he was around the side of the house he stopped to look out towards the town once more, he saw large caravan wagons being pulled in for the youths of Passer Town who were wishing to travel the world. The thought made him giddy with excitement "One day ill go on an awesome adventure with a caravan! Ill make awesome friends and maybe even fall in love! Eheheh mom always said love is the best thing to help you fight monsters! I wonder if it cuts deep or if its like a magic spell?" as Lumos pondered these whimsical thoughts he tended to the chickens, or more so cleaned up the chickens sense they had all been slaughtered.
It was the Witching Hour when Lumos peaked from under his cover to see if he could see any lights from under his bedroom door, when he saw none he strained his ears to listen to see if his mother was up. When there was no indications that she was Lumos quietly slipped from his bed and went to get on his undergarments and then to dress in his finest clothes, his mother had told him these were for Dancing Rituals and he couldn't think of a better time to wear them then to sneak off to a festival. Smiling to himself at his ingenious idea he slips on his thin sandals and walks over to his window, placing a hand on t he seal he concentrates on the magic his mother put there and pictured it dispersing into smoke and wafting up into the sky, sure enough there was the sound of magic dispersing and he quickly climbed through his window and landed silently in the sand. He glanced back to make sure his mother wasn't alerted before he took off for the festival, it was quiet a walk through the desert to get there, however he was filled with the energy of a thousand suns as he ran he would jump and twirl laughing and having fun, for any who saw him they would swear they saw a Fae dancing in the desert. The moon was high in the sky and the light shone apon the sand and his white hair which in turn reflected the moonlight making it appear as if he was a iridescent being, through his excitement he would spot the occasional undead just standing still in the sand, or the occasional Cinder wolf pack relaxing in the moon light. The strangest thing however was a Lamia fighting a Giant Scorpion which caused Lumos to stop and squint off into the distance to make sure he saw that correctly before he more cautiously continued his journey. Soon the lights of Passer Town and the sounds of the festival were close in hand and he found himself welling up with excitement again, rushing forward he made it to the gated entrance of Passer Town where he bombed and weaved through the crowd even crawling under what he could only guess was an Elephant. He smiled at the massive beast as he made his way through the gate, one of the guards caught him, a half elf he knew by the name Rorick, the elf cocked an eyebrow "Lumos does your mom know your here?!" Lumos shouted back gleefully "no she don't mister Rorick sir!" the guard stares in surprise of his honestly but simply smiles and shakes his head. Lumos was finally in the festival and it was everything he could dream off, there was lights all over town of various different colors, people of all kinds raging from some weird thing with horns and a tail to a really short man with pointy ears, to his amazement there was even a large Elephant walking around and dressed up in clothes! He would have to ask his mother about that later, in a way that wouldn't get in him in trouble of course.
Lumos stopped by the large fountain in the center of town so he could get a better look of his surroundings, there was so many different vendors. He could see some selling foods he had never seen, more so he smelt food everywhere the air was thick with rich and new smells that it made his mouth water and his stomach rumble in protest. He looked around some more and saw more strange and new races of people walking about, and the cool items they had to sell. He smiled and jumped down running through the crowd he was stopped by a wrinkled hand clasping his shoulder, he froze and looked up to the kind and grandmotherly face of Miss Lordfeild smiling down at him like a mischievous imp "ohohoho snuck out of the house did we little Moonlight huh? Oh don't worry im senile remember i didn't see a thing ohohoho" Lumos smiled up at her grateful for her discretion "i heard there is allot of cool entertainment Granny Lordfeild! where is it all at?" She smirks "it must suck being about as short as me huh ohohoho, well if you look around you will see, we got fire dancers over there" she points to his left where Lumos turned to glance to watch nearly naked men and women dancing and twirling with fire making spectacular patterns and shapes with their moves. She then pointed to her right "Over there we have some mages doing magic tricks, and over there you will see the combat tournament! back by the gate some bards are playing various instruments, and further in are the exotic beast handlers, its everywhere my boy!" she coos at him patting his white hair ruffling it up, he quickly pats it down and smiles. "Okay im going to go check out the exotic beasts! Later granny!" the elderly woman waved him off as he ran around through the crowd trying to make his way towards the city hall district however before he could, he ran smack dab into something warm and scaly, firmly falling on his butt with an audible oof.
The tall figure turned looking down at Lumos, however when Lumos met those golden eyes he could do nothing but stare with his mouth ajar so wide he probably could have swallowed five large lizards. Standing before him with crimson scales and in armor of gold and red was what Lumos thought to be a dragon. The creature smiled at him showing off its sharp teeth which made Lumos jump but he smiled back. The creature laughed "whats wrong there kid you look like you've seen a monster, Don't let my looks fool ya i don't bite unless provoked ahahaha" the man laughed boisterously making his armor jingle and clank. He offered a hand to Lumos, the claws on it were super sharp that Lumos poked them first before taking his hand, however when he did, the beast nearly tossed him when he helped him on his feet. Lumos squeaked for a second before he was placed back firmly on the ground, the excitement of meeting a dragon filled him to the seams of bursting and he more or less shouted, "Holy Shar its a Dragon! I knew i saw one its so cool to meet you mr dragon!" he bounced up and down excitedly unable to contain himself. The dragon however had an amused expression as he squatted down to look closer at Lumos "that is quiet a complement kid but im not a dragon, im a dragonborn! Close enough though i suppose, let me guess your first time seeing on of my kind?" Lumos was confused but he nodded before saying "so.. your not a dragon but a dragonborn?" the dragonborn nods "that is right kid."he said gruffly. Lumos thinks really hard on what that means then says "so you came out of a dragon?! That is even cooler!" The dragonborn laughs again and clasps Lumos's back knocking him down "ahahaha not quiet right either! Man i like you kid whats your name?" Lumos got back up on his feet and dusted off his long skirt "Lumos Mr Dragonborn sir." the Dragonborn nods "well that is a pretty name for a young human girl, your hair does look like moonlight, well you can call me Jorgar, Jorgar Thurnuroth the great warrior!" He grabs Lumos by the waist and puts him on his shoulder "tell ya what kid! Stick with me and keep telling me those joke and ill show ya the festival till your parents arrive!" Lumos tensed, he really hoped his mother wasn't coming anytime soon because she would kill him. he looks down at Jorgar "jokes? um...." he tried to think o f one then smiled "Do zombies eat brains with their fingers?" Jorgar glanced up at him with a sidelong look as he walked through the crowed. Lumos giggled "no they eat the fingers separate ahahaha!" Jorgar chuckled "im sure you will get better at it kid."
Lumos and Jorgar had spent the remaining of the festival together, they had seen all kinds of things that Lumos wasn't accustomed to and Lumos was most assuredly feeling the sensory overload. He watched Jorgar beat everyone in the Combat Tournament and win first prize, he thought that was the coolest thing hes seen today. They had taken a small break to eat, with Jorgar buying Lumos a large chunk of meat that he could barly finish even half of and then some weird treats from across the sea that were super sweet. Things continued until the first sign of morning light from across the desert. When the morning light hit the edge of town Lumos heard a loud cracking sound and looked up just as the sky above Passer Town was covered in golden flames. He stared in awe as he watched the fire burn brightly and fade. Jorgar picked him up and put him back on his shoulders, "come on kid its the part everyone has been waiting for!" Lumos looked down at him his arms and hands resting atop of Jorgar's head. "What is it? Whats going on?" Jorgar pointed his chin towards the main gate of Passer Town, "well the Fire Keeper is about to send off everyone who joined the caravan, i hear she is quiet a beauty." Lumos arched an eyebrow "eck girls are nasty Jorgar, they have bugs in their hair, that is what Luster said." Jorgar laughs "you will understand when you get older, besides your a girl and with hair like yours and those piercing blue eyes im sure you could change that boys mind someday" Lumos frowned confused by this statement but as he was about to ask he saw this tall and slender elvan woman in a rather revealing dress of black, gold and crimson standing before a large pyre. Before long she turned and merely touched it and it caught ablaze with golden flames, she then called forth flames to dance above the heads of the crowd as the youth of Passer Town gathered at their respective Caravan wagons to be taken to the ships that waited them. The woman spoke up her voice loud and clear and almost magical, the feeling made Lumos's ears tingle. "We gather here today to send forth our brave youth so that they may seek fame, adventure and possibly love! For ages the youth of this town have lived in fear but as of now this shall no longer be the case, let us send them off with good tiding and best wishes! I shall now sang the Hyme of the Morning Sky, may the guiding light of the dawn be your protection Caravaners!" she spreads her arms and began to sang a beautiful song that filled Lumos with memories of when he was the happiest. All around him people teared up and smiled, even Jorgar seemed to be enjoying the song his eyes closed with a smile on his face.
"Dreaming of the stars on high
That speak to me in secret sighs
Drifting on a breeze
Only I can feel and hear
Could it be the sacred wind
That's pulling me to now begin
To walk into the dark
Carrying the light of tomorrow
Need to walk the wings of high
Beyond the earth, beyond the sky
C'mon don't hesitate
Don't look back we've got to go now
Don't fear
You'll be safe with the one
Morning star watching over all
Deep inside so silently
My heart must beat
Deep inside of me
Memories flickering and shimmering on
Endlessly
Keeping close to the path
Morning star watching over all
Moving over endless mountains up so high
Walking to the light
Your heart will
See the path and you will find your way
Just wait and see
Moving under endless skies oh so high
Tomorrow we'll follow, when in doubt,
Your promises today
Just wait and see..."
When the song ended the Caravaners had departed and everyone in the crowed remained silent for awhile as their feelings caught inside them. The Fire Keeper made a pose and all the flames above the crowds head formed above Passer Town into the crest of the town itself. Everyone cheered and clapped with excitement as the festival came to its conclusion. Lumos smiled and cheered with Jorgar who merely nodded in approval. Shortly after everyone began to pack up and leave, Lumos was with Jorgar outside the main gate when his companions came, Jorgar patted his head "you take care of yourself kid! Keep that brightness in your eyes ahaha, and hay maybe ill see ya again!" Lumos smiled excitedly he had made an awesome friend "that would be awesome! when i get older i am going to be the Fire Keeper so you make sure you come and watch Mr. Jorgar!" Jorgar laughed and pats his head "sure thing kid ill look forward to it! Till then keep safe." He turned and walked off with his companions. Lumos was just standing there thinking about how much fun he had when he felt the sudden sense of death approaching, chills went up his spine and his hair stood on end, he slowly turned and looked towards the desert and sure enough there was a sandstorm and in the center of it a very very angry mother, "Lumos Lunavarian your in so much trouble young man! When i get my hands on you, you will wish you had immorality!" Lumos gulped "uh oh." and he goes running into town.
