The Greatest. (One Shot)

She is stressed. She is sadness in a person. She is in love. She is Viola. Viola lied awake in a dark room in a comfy bed underneath the sheets feeling the warmth of her partner next to her, he lied next to her sleeping on his back while she laid on her side with his arm underneath her. She rested her head on his chest listening to the steady beat of his heart. She took deep breaths making sure the smell of him registered in her mind she never wanted to forget the way he smelled, the way he breathed, and even the way his skin felt on hers. Viola could not sleep knowing that there were only days left with the one she truly loves and desires, she and her partner are on a vacation to the Grand Canyon he had managed to book a 3 day stay at a local cabin for the both of them seeing it as a lovely get a away for them while also spending time with her. He slept like a baby so sound asleep with Viola wrapped in his arms along with the smell of her hair acting as chloroform to him, you see he loved Viola so much but had some issues showing it at times in an appropriate way. While he didn't buy her flowers or chocolates, he instead remembered the small details about her and got her things that wouldn't seem as romantic but to him meant a lot. On the days he spent with her he would take her to restaurants she loves, or purposely stop at the store with her for gas when in reality he would just want her to pick up her favorite snacks, and stare so much at her he could draw her face from memory, and the comfort of her presence and smell relaxed him so much he would doze off because to him she is beauty, she is intelligence, she is the love of his life.

Viola hugged her partner closer tightening her grip around him feeling if she did not, he would somehow disappear from her arms or slowly fade away from her fingertips. Even though he is heavily asleep he manages to react to her action and in the same manner he pulls her in closer as he lets out a deep breath. She manages to stay in that position remaining completely still for hours or what seem minutes for her, time with her partner was very important to her at this point it seemed like it had a value that no one could price on since time being a inanimate object it is something she could never get back no matter how hard she tried. The reason time was so important to this couple was because Viola's boyfriend was a member of the United States Air Force and he was being deployed very soon, she knew he would be in no danger but the thought of her being apart from him for months is what broke her heart the most. As the sun rose lighting up the once dark room a phone went off saying it was time for them to get up as they were to hike in the Grand Canyon today and needed an early start. Viola closed her eyes pretending she was still asleep knowing that if he knew she was up all night he would worry about her, she felt his arm that was underneath her move and him stretching while yawning loudly. She remembers their first date how everything he did annoyed her, from the way he pronounced things, ate, laughed, and his lack of humor at times. She remembers thinking to herself and texting her friends "this date sucks, definitely no second date with this dude" the thought makes her laugh. She also remembers asking him out for the 2nd date, his sarcasm and what seemed like lack of interest in her drew her in.

"What are you laughing about" He says.

She opens her eyes and looks up at him.

"I hate the way you yawn."

"Stop lying to yourself, you love me."

He gets up and heads for the bathroom while closing the door.

Viola fixes her hair then checks her phone not replying to any messages besides her mom to make sure she doesn't worry, no matter how old she got she was still the baby of the family. She hears the toilet flush followed by the faucet running.

"Diego" She says fairly loud.

Diego opens the door while still drying his hands he then walks over to his side of the bed grabbing his glasses and putting them on.
