He was a star. Not just any star, but a white star. A white star was very powerful and never died. He was a true immortal among others that that they were. He saw many planets, solar systems, galaxies, universes, even dimensions come and go. He fought in the War, against a once ally, turned enemy, turned ally again. He had a child, a beautiful child that sat on a thrown with him. That was why he took the offer to replace another. Sometimes a person dies too soon that is vital to the world that they inhabited, even as a stillborn sometimes. A universe has been on pause for a few minutes, with a child dead before they were born. The beings with him didn't know what to do, they liked that world, but didn't want to bring an outsider in. He decided to take the child's place before anything could be truly decided. It would be a good vacation, even though he didn't know much about this world or the ones around it. He will figure things out along the way.
Todoroki Touya wasn't born screaming, but silently and hardly moving. The doctors feared for his life, until he started to wriggle towards her. His mother. He was going to be beautiful, Rei knew. With his fathers bright red hair and opened blue eyes. Rei also knew he would be strong, she could feel it in her bones.
Touya looked up to her with all knowing eyes. She could feel that she was being judged for everything that she was. Her beliefs, what she did, doing, and what was going to happen. It passed in less of a second. Touya smiled at her with his gums and reaching hands. She felt that she passed some sort of test. When Touya did the same to Enji, she knew Touya found him lacking in some way. Touya quickly tried to get away from him and tried to go Fuyumi, his twin. When he couldn't actually get to her, he got frustrated. He started to roll towards Fuyumi with disgruntlement.
Rei looked back at Enji and started to doubt if marrying him was a good idea.
Touya was able to sit up on his own at three months, a little early, but nothing to worry about. He said his first words a few days later. It was "Mama" and she was ecstatic. Until she looked up at how soon babies start talking. The earliest should be at least six months, but Touya did that in half the time. She got scared, not for herself, not of Touya, but for him. She already knew Touya wasn't normal, now she doubts that he's human.
"Touya, pumpkin, you can tell mommy anything, you know." Touya looked blankly at her, well what was she expecting. Maybe Touya was just a very smart baby. However, she thinks she knows better then that.
"Not Touya." She got her answer. She looked down at him. All too knowing eyes were staring back at her. She smiled at him, hoping that he will speak to her. "Touya gone. Never born. First time human." She felt her smile fall.
Rei knew that logically, her baby was never hers, but to hear it said like that to her... She started to cry. Touya looked up at her with a smile and reaching hands "Won't last long. Not strong for me. Can go." Rei heard what he said, he thought she wanted him gone, dead, for taking her baby from her. "Not replaced. Stillborn." She heard what he couldn't say. Her baby was dead, was always dead. However...
"No, please, don't go.'' She pleaded through her tears. Other mothers would have killed him, in their grief and Touya knew that, but not her. "I'll take care of you. I promise. You gave me another chance to take care of someone. I promise, just don't leave."
Touya looked surprised at her, while she was cleaning away her tears. Then he relaxed in her arms and Rei knew he would stay.
(Years later, when Touya's body is covered in scars, all Rei could see was her shining star. So much in a fragile body. She knows how he blinds with his light, so that none can see past the surface. Until she sees red feathers and blond hair, she knows someone sees him for who he is. Who had looked past the blazing light and sees Touya as he truly is. Someone bigger then life, but hauntingly human.)
