MELODY COULD NOT help herself. she loved the small little meetings with jet, as they made her feel full of love and happiness. she might have even fallen in love with him. but melody didn't really know, that much as she was still a foolish new adult, her hand grasped by everyone who was wishing to court her. she didn't even know who was who anymore, and it really was a headache for melody to remember all these offerings.
she was a lovely girl, thick black hair with dark skin and beautiful eyes. her family didn't blame the suitors for wanting her as their wife. but melody didn't. she wanted to live peacefully and with her creature friends and jet, not be pushed into a relationship that she might regret in the future.
she was friends with jet as young as 13 when she discovered the little tree growing by the borders between the towns. it was the beginning of sparta and athens and melody was apart of the athens community. it didn't stop her from being friends with the other boy though. he was light skinned, a stark comparison to melody with the most lovely blonde hair melody has ever seen. sometimes, she would comb his hair like she did for her sisters to this day.
❝ you know melody, you should probably stop hanging around me. ❞ jet said softly one day. melody was confused as she let her hand with the comb drop to her side before scurrying to sit by him. they were newly 18 year olds and they had celebrated earlier. but they snuck out to watch the stars, which melody was thrilled that he had a fondness for— like her.
❝ why? aren't we friends? ❞ melody questioned, a bit worried as a crease of worry crossed her forehead. she wasn't sure if this was a warning or just a funny statement he tried to place seriously, but melody didn't know. she had thought she already knew every nook and cranny of jet's life and story. since when did he want to kick her out now?
❝ we are. i just don't want you to regret being friends with me. ❞ jet turned his luscious umber eyes to melody. they only just seemed brighter under the starlight and melody found herself glancing to the ground, a bit shaky. this definitely wasn't okay. finally, she lifted her head back, whereas she had some tears glistening at the edges of her own eyes.
❝ we're friends, jet! you can't just say that. of course i don't regret meeting you. you're much better than everyone else. ❞ melody whispered as she clenched her hand with the comb, shifting it to a small fist. she was still small for her age and jet patted her head like a small dog. her braids were lightly thumping her back as it was a slight wind tonight, which only had melody think the mood was getting worse.
❝ if that really is true, you'll probably hate me soon enough. i have a favor to ask. ❞ jet began. melody luckily had ignored his first statement. she would hate him? nearly impossible.
