I was only 17 years young, the older people had been doing their job, cleaning, cooking, hunting, and playing. I on the other hand was looking over the vast land that surrounded me while I sat on the vivid, soft green grass, I looked up to the bright blue sky. The clouds were white and fluffy, while the sun shined down on my light yet dark olive skin. I closed my eyes listening to the wind, and the kids that were screaming, laughing, and running around. I loved the sun, the heat it gave off was my favorite thing. Today was going to be great! Little did I know I was wrong. All of a sudden it got quiet.. too quiet. Soon I could hear more than just kids running, everyone was screaming bloody murder. I opened my eyes and saw a strange white man with bright blue eyes, fear struck me as I looked into those beautiful eyes of his. That's when I snapped back into reality, I got up quickly trying to run away from the strange man only to be grabbed roughly, he grabbed something from another white man. Suddenly I felt cold metal touch my ankles and wrists. I began to thrash around, only to start tearing up due to the weapon he had used to hit me in the back of my head, I then saw stars in the sky. Everything got blurry as I tried to get up, but because I was so dizzy I kept falling down. The strange man called out for something and another man came up and helped him pick me up off the ground. The screams were getting more and more quiet the further they dragged me along. I started crying because of the pain in my head and from their grip. I didn't understand what they were saying, everything was so mumbled. The only thing that I could understand was that they were not happy. My feet started to cramp and burn from being dragged on for so long that the grass felt like glass, as we got further away from my home we got to dry dirt and pebbles. Once my vision became clear I tried to get up so the hard ground wouldn't hurt me anymore. I guess the men didn't like that because they hit me in the back of the head again, my vision got blurry once again as I tried to stay conscious. The pain in my head was getting worse and worse by every passing second. Everyone else was walking, why was I the only one being dragged?? It made no sense to me. Just then one of our hunters had tried to get away, only to be shot in the back. He fell to the ground screaming in pure pain. Two white men then grabbed him and snapped his neck... I then heard the screams get very loud. Everyone was walking for what felt like an hour, once we were far away from my village I started to see a boat, not the small ones I'm used to. It was huge, three of my villages could fit in there... Hell maybe even five of them. Just then my anxiety began to rise higher as I saw more and more people getting hurt from these white men for trying to break free.
As people began boarding the boat the men and women were separated, the kids stayed with the women. As I got onto the boat I was shoved into the room with the other lady's, they were all freaking out; scared for themselves and their babies. There were a lot more people than just my village, it seemed like there were 100 women and 70 kids. Once everyone was crammed into the room they closed the door and you could hear it lock a few moments later. Soon the boat began to move and the little ones let out a squeak of fear. Some of them even threw up from motion sickness. As time passed everyone started to doze off, but for me.. I was too scared to, the only light was coming from the Ceiling between the cracks of wood. Every now and then you can see people walking above us, more like stomping; but same thing. As the light started to fade everything went silent, the only movement you could hear was the occasional sleeping body move. I was sure I was the only one awake. My headache had gone down a bit but with any sudden movements I would be paralyzed with pain. Fear, and pain. The only two things I was feeling. I thought to myself, how long will we be here for? And what will happen next? I laid down and closed my eyes trying to forget that I was still here. All I could smell was urine so I quickly tried to get up, only to hit my head on a post. Within seconds I was back on the ground, falling into a deep sleep.
Once I woke up I had a splintering headache, I looked around and saw that everyone else was up. Panicked, but up. They were holding on their kids as if they had let them go they would disappear. Soon the door had unlocked, everyone had looked at the door with fear. Finally when the door had opened the white man I had seen when I was taken had walked in holding food, he threw the small amount of food on the ground and walked back out, relocking the door. Because of the ceiling being so low one woman crawled up to the food, grabbed it and put it up to her nose and took a long sniff. Other women crawled up to her passing it around just smelling it. Soon everyone took small bites trying to save it for as long as possible. When it got to me I smelled it, it smelt stale and old. I took a small bite to find out it was bread, it didn't even look like bread; when the kids got it they greedily started to eat the bread. When the food was all gone, everyone started to converse quietly. I stayed quite trying to hear what was going on above us. Someone must have heard them talking because there were three hard bangs on the door, everyone had jumped and quickly shut up. Everyone started listening to the heavy footsteps leave, when it was completely quiet everyone went into fetal position. It was still dark out and everyone was shivering from the cold stale air. After about an hour everyone was in a deep sleep. But I stayed up, my head still pounding/throbbing I could hear every little movement. I layed down on the moist wood floor that smelled like urine and vomit, and closed my eyes and did some deep breathing. After a few minutes I passed out.
I suddenly woke up from a nightmare, by the looks of the light it was about noon, mostly everyone has been sleeping, crying, or talking quietly. You could hear the rumbling in the little ones stomach's, they complained about the hunger; but it didn't get them anywhere. You could feel the movements of the boat, the light sway, back and forth, back and forth. Because of the movements some had thrown up again, the smell had only gotten stronger. I was still in excruciating pain so I started to rub my temples. After a while a white man had hit the door to make sure everyone keeps it quiet. No one knows how the men are doing, if any of them were hurt, or if they got any food. The women are starting to grow more and more thirsty as time passed. Soon we came to a stop. I heard many people pass by the door, none of them stopping to unlock it. My guess was that they were gone for about 20 minutes, when they came back you could hear screaming as if it were my village coming on the boat all over again. The door was unlocked and more women and kids were shoved into the small room. I was surprised that this many people could fit in this room. Once they got everyone in, they closed and re-locked the door. Encasing us in the small dimly lit room, with lots of crying people.
