Chapter 2: Memory.

He found himself back on the entrance to the woods. He had a map in his hand... ah yes, he could remember quite clearly now. He began to talk slowly to them, adding every single detail. He spoke about everything, never pausing to take a breath, or recollect his thoughts. It was if the scene in his mind was a memorised script; there wasn't a single letter he forgot to mention.

He was walking to the dam, well, walking to the pile of logs which he assumed to be a dam, when it happened.

All he'd wanted was to have left the house for a nice walk and discover maybe some new wildlife, but no.

So, he had left the house, his rucksack on his back, headed off toward the Acre Forest, the nicest forest out of the lot in Matyer. He walked to the billboard with an unfolded map stretched underneath the sheet of glass that covered it. It was far to detailed to remember so he had taken a leaflet with a smaller copy of the map inside, and popular attractions in the area.

He opened up the leaflet and the map took up two whole pages; it had two forests and a park to fit in. He turned it around quite a few times, finally settling with it turned twice to the left. He began to walk toward the entrance to the woods, being careful not to step on and plants or trip on a branch. He went into the entrance of woods and followed the path. It wasn't easy to follow, the windy weather had blown across all the leaves so there wasn't an outline of where to walk, making it simple to leave the path and not know.

So, as predicted, he did.

Instead of turning left he just carried straight on, not at all fazed by the fact he had to keep on walking around trees or battle through twigs. He just kept walking... and walking, and walking, until he arrived at his destination, which wasn't his destination at all.

There was no dam, just a pile of logs. That was it, just a big clump of them, supposedly from a knocked down tree. So, Andrew sat on the big pile, pulled out the map and began to look at and follow his footsteps.

"Well, I didn't turn left there..." He muttered to himself. He tucked it back away and stood up, tried to make a step but failed and just fell flat on his face.

"Wha-what?" Andrew stuttered, and attempted to stand up, but couldn't. A crow flew away from the branch it was perched on. Andrew twisted his top body around to look at his legs, and gasped.

Each of his legs was secured to the ground, with a thick, moving vine holding his legs to the ground. He felt like screaming, but couldn't, it was if his throat physically couldn't produce the sound. He could feel the moving vine twist around up his leg and crept toward the top half of his body. He felt helpless, and no matter how much he struggled, he simply couldn't move. It was so strong he couldn't even shift his leg even slightly to the left, or move it the slightest.

"It's just a dream..." He murmured. "It's just a dream..." The vine crept along his back and wound around his arms, and suddenly a whisper came along.

"You don't have to die..." It began. The whisper was soft, and silent. He twisted his head to look around for the source of the voice but couldn't find it. All he found was leaves stuck in mid-air... in mid-air? What? The trees weren't blowing; everything was just... still, still as a statue, like time was unmoving. Could it get any freakier?

"Time is frozen..." The soft voice whispered. "There's an escape from death, live for eternity, in the City of Horror!" It concluded. Then, the whisper vanished, and it was silent again, apart from Andrew's quick, deep breaths. The vine stopped winding once it had made a bridge over his neck. Then the vine tightened even further, and it was pressed down on his neck so heavily, it hurt. Then the ground underneath him began to crumple, and then he was falling.
