Summer was ending. The leaves around here usually go straight to brown, but outside was filled with yellows and reds today. Birds and squirrels are out and about getting ready to leave or hide. The kitchen's mainly empty, but the people of the house set a round orange squash down on the counter.
She was beautiful. Polished, no bruises, a little tendril curling outward away from her stem. Though I am but a mere piece of lettuce, I felt the desire to talk to her anyway.
Hello? No, that sounds as if I'm on the phone. Greetings? Absolutely not, too formal. Agh.
"Um, hi there...!" I ended up saying. Ugh.
"Oh, hello," She said with her majestic, calming voice.
"My, uh-my name is Liv," I said. Is it getting warmer?
"My name is Laugh...yes, seriously." She replied, seeming as though she was ready to disappear.
"I like that!" I said pleasantly, because I did like it.
"Really?" She asked.
"Yes!" I said. The kitchen is an oven. Someone open a window dangit.
She was shining. We talked some more, mostly small talk, but every second was wonderful. She actually listened to me. And responded! For a long time! But then I was put away. Maybe I'll see her again tomorrow! I have to come up with better things to say though.
