Love and a shy girl

Part 1: Meetings

What is love?

    The question I asked myself as I sat in the cafe and hangout spot that I found myself most nights while I sipped my coffee. 

    I mean I know what it is obviously. Its something that has many meanings to many different people.  

     But the kind I was asking myself about was love of the romantic kind, something I dont think ive ever experienced before.

    I took another sip of my coffee and sat there pondering the question I just asked myself as I stared into the dark brown liquid.

    I went to take another sip but before I could the door to the shop opened with its customary "ding" and I looked up to see Alex walk in with someone behind him.
   
    He didnt hesitate like always and gave his customary wave before opening his mouth.

"Hey everyone i brought someone new today".

    He took a second to make sure people were looking his way before turning and saying something to the person behind him, a few seconds later a shy looking girl walked out.

    I quitely studied her during the seconds of awkward silence that followed as she stood there looking down slightly.

    She wasn't exactly short but you couldnt say tall either (or atleast as tall as me), she had a small frame but at the same time you could tell she kept herself in shape. Her light brownish hair was kept in a loose messy side ponytail that was draped over her sholder and fell to about the bottom of her ribs. She wore a pair of black rimmed glasses that sat kind of low on her nose, that she pushed up as i watched her, but they soon slid back down her nose again.

    Her features wernt beautful but anyone that was asked would say she was absoulety cute.

    What surprised me though was how she dressed, she wore a black long sleeved shirt that made her pale skin stand out then below that was... shorts and sandals. I quickly thought to myself what and odd outfit but was cut off of anymore thought as she spoke out.

"H-hi im Mia".

    Her voice matched her look rather well, a hint of shyness but just as cute as her face.

    She stood there slightly looking around while tugging on her sleeve. When she looked my way I gave a small wave and went back to finish  my coffee while the rest of the people in the room went to greet her.

    I didnt think too much about the encounter while I took the last sip of my drink as Alex was always bringging new people around, some stayed but many didnt so who knew weather this new girl would of not.
    
    A short while after as I snacked on a muffin some of the others invited me over to play a bored game with the new girl.
   
    I got up and went over taking the only empty seat which ended up placing me directly across from Mia.

   She looked up at me slowly and our eyes locked.

    I stared into her eyes for probably too long but I just couldnt help myself, I had never seen eyes like hers before. They were a bright crystal grey that shined in the light, but deep in them there appeared to be  hint of what looked like sadness.

    Mia broke eye contact as she looked down slightly with a light blush on her cheeks, and I quickly introduced myself before things got more awkward.

"Hey Mia im Chloe, nice to meet you"

    She looked back up at me here face still a bit flushed and spoke softly.

"N-nice to meet you too"

    The rest of the night went rather the same as always with everyone at the hangout playing games together or off doing their own thing.

    Mia became a little less shy as the night went on and even let out a light laugh now and again as she was becoming more comfortable with everyone.

    As it got closer and closer to close the shop cleared out before only a few of us were left, it was the usual people that stayed till close, Alex, Julia, Shane, and myself.

    But off in a corner sat Mia quietly looking at her phone.

  Guess shes like the rest of us here with staying up late I thought to myself as I was gathering my stuff and getting ready to head home.

I bid farewell in my normal manner with a simple "Night" and too my surprise from the corner came that same shy voice I had heard eariler.

"Good night I hope you sleep well"

    It caught me off guard at first but I composed myself while thinking she probably said good night to the others in the same way and I had missed it.

    Or had she?

    Wait why did I even find it odd in the first place, maybe it was because the normal reply I got was also a simple good night like I gave out before leaving.

    Im over thinking this i thought before offering a reply.

"Thanks you too"

    I was met by a warm smile that spread across her small pink lips as well as another slight blush, before she quickly looked back down at her phone as if embaresed for some reason.

    As I headed out the door the only thing on my mind was what an odd girl Mia seemed to be.

Or am I the odd one for thinking shes odd?

    I almost said out loud as i walked down the dimly lit sidewalk.

    Shakeing my head before actually saying out loud this time.

"Naw im defently over thinking all this, I must be more tired then I thought"
