The town was in mourning. They had just received the news that the warriors that went to defend the nearby town were successfully, but died during the defense. Many townspeople were grieving loved ones lost. One of them was one of the captain's apprentices, Doka. She was a shorter girl, about 5'5. Most are amazed that she made it to Northwatch Warriors.

Once she had heard what had happened, she ran away to cry. She ran all the way back to her cot and buried her face deep within her pillow to muffle it as hard as she could. She not only admired the captain, but she was in love with him.

It was an unbearable burden on her heart knowing she won't be able to tell him how she feels. It felt like a great stone was pressing against her. She couldn't breathe well or speak coherently.

She heard the door slam open, she looked up from the pillow to see who it was. It was one of the Northwatch warriors that stayed behind. He looked sweaty and out of breath.

"The*huf**huf* captain is*huf* alive!" He exclaimed.

Doka's eyes lit up and ran outside to see people gathering around the large gate that separated the town and the outside. The gate was open and about 200 feet outside the gate was the captain. He was carrying a soldier on his back and dragging a cart with 7 wounded soldiers in it. He himself was bloodied and bruised from the fight.

Everyone was talking to each other about how they lived and how long he's been walking like that. Soldiers were already running over to take the injured off the captain. Doka sprinted towards the captain.

"Captain! You're alive!" Doka screamed in both a mixture of fear and relief.

"Well of course I am. I wouldn't be the captain if i wasn't strong." He said with a pained voice. He then collapsed.

Two guards came to him and put him on their shoulders and rushed him to the infirmary. Doka followed close behind. It took little time to get there and they put the captain on the bed. Doka tried getting in but the guards wouldn't let her in. She had to stay out till they gave the ok signal.

She waited over 2 hours until a guard came out of the room.

"Is he ok?" Doka said in a weak voice with tears welling up in her eyes.

"He's gonna be fine, but he isn't allowed to fight for quite awhile. He's lucky he survived."

Doka, relieved, spoke "thank the gods. Can I come in to see him?"

"He actually wanted to see specifically you, so go on ahead."

"M..me specifically?" She whispered to herself. Her heart started beating faster and started blushing intensely. She walked past the guard and went inside the room.

Some nurses were surrounding the captain checking on him. The captain noticed Doka come in and smiled.

"Ah, there's my favorite apprentice. May we have some privacy please." He said in a cheerful stoic voice.

The nurses nodded and left the room. Doka came closer to the captain. She saw that he was bandaged up all over his chest and face.

   "Captain, I-"

"Ha! I told you there's no need to call me captain in private. Call me Vull."

"Vull, you have no idea how relieved I am to see you again. They had said you and the others didn't make it."

"We almost didn't. Luckily I had enough strength left to get the survivors and myself out." He said smiling.

Doka couldn't hold it in any longer and burst into tears. She hugged Vull tight and never wanted to let go.
