Dawn Wester.
That's my name.
Everyone knows it. Only because Dawn Wester was that girl at school whose little sister died.
I try to hide but what's the point? People will still see me, they will always see me.
I rub my chin, feelings the awkward texture of my birthmark. It didn't used to bother me. People actually thought it was cool.
It made me individual. Different from all the other drones. It made me feel special. Not anymore.
I tug my hood further over my head.
"DAWN! HEY!" Dani shreiks. She bounds up to me, embracing me with her small, skinny arms.
"Hey!" I smile, and give her a wave. All my other friends decide to join us. There is so many.
George, Benny, Astrid, Thomas, Alister, Tilly, Amber, Mia, Vali and Danielle. Dani for short. She's my closest friend.
"Hey guys!" I laugh, everyone surrounds me. Iv'e been sick all week. A fever.
"WE MISSED YOU!" Thomas groaned, kissing my forehead. He is such a cutie. And so good looking. You'd never see it coming but Thomas was gay. Like, the most gay person you could ever meet. It's not his looks, it's the way he acts. Hard to explain really.
His brushes his free hand through his hair, giving me a toothy grin.
"Guys-Guys! GUYS!" They all fall silent from their friendly banter.
"Class!" I laugh, and Dani threads and arm through mine. I love my friends and all, but after the accident, i feel like they're always buttering my up. Trying to make me feel better when the only thing that could make me feel better- is if we acted like it never happened. Just went on with our lives like it was BEFORE. Always kidding, always bright.
Perfect.
But not anymore.
I listened to the math teacher drone on and on and i couldn't be bothered paying attention. I had good grades un-like most people i knew, i could afford to doze off for a bit.
I scored a seat by the window at the start of the year for that exact reason. Day dreaming and sleeping. I rest my chin on my palm and with my other hand scrape my long hair to the other shoulder, shielding my face perfectly.
My eyes dart around the school garden. A special blossom tree that my friends and i sit under in the spring sat there. It's blossoms just starting to appear again.
Maybe we'll sit there again this lunch.
As i turn to look away i spot a figure. It moves quickly.
A boy.
He has dark brown hair and eyes so blue you can see from miles away and still mistake it for the sea. He is ridiculously tall and long legged. My cheeks flush.
He has round glasses, a metal frame that glistens in the sun. He plonks himself under the tree.
He has a few books with him. not school books. Books for reading, personal ones. I squint closely.
To my horror he pulls out a knife. Just a small one, like a pocket knife. He shuffles about, and behind him.
He turns and starts carving something into the tree. I gasp, a little too loud. He's marking our tree! HOW DARE HE!
I screech my chair behind my and everyone turns and stares. I blush again.
"I-need. TO use the b-bathroom." it comes out strained. Some people snigger and giggle. Whatever, all i care about is him ruining my past few good memories i have of this place.
"S-sure..." The teacher frowns, i rarely even speak in class. I am usually quite focused, actually.
"Cool." I grab my bag and shoot out of the classroom so fast i almost slip- earning me a few more laughs.
"Oh fuck off." I huff, as i run down a flight of stairs and to the front doors. I round a corner and to the back of the school where the garden sits.
"HEY YOU!" I shout, oh god, Earth swallow me whole.
He swings his head and smiles.
"Hello." He tilts his head. He is the mos attractive guy i have ever met.
"H-hello," I stutter. Then realize why i am here.
I storm forward and grab the knife from his hand. Examining the damage he did to the tree. He looks confused, weirded out and most of all..Worried. WHY IS EVERYONE SO DAMN WORRIED.
"Do you know what you've done?" I question, he blinks twice. giving me an odd look.
(Hey! So, i know it's only the prologue but if you read this please tell me if you enjoyed it! I really like hearing people opinions about my writing!)
