A/n: ok so I won't be posting for a few days bc Australia sucks and I have to get yet ANOTHER wifi router. I'll be online on other apps but only for a few minutes at at time with my data. Soz, I'll be back in a few days.

Hc: L is prone to bad luck. Not anything really bad, just small things that really get under his skin.

You watched as the detective furiously scribbles the inkless pen on the notebook in front of him, trying to get it to work before throwing it aside and grabbing another pen. Only to have the same results.

L hadn't been having the best luck today.

It started when he spilt hot coffee on himself, then his computer decided to to a reboot before he could save anything. Now his pens are out of ink. You could see he was getting annoyed, he really wasn't having a good day. You'd finished your work for the day so you decided to do something to cheer him up. You'd taken over the kitchen, making his favourite strawberry shortcake as you watched him struggle across the room through the doorway.

As you were mixing the batter together and resisting the urge to eat it out of the bowl, you heard a bang from the other room and looked up to see just lying in misery on the floor, his chair slumped over with a broken leg.

Oh L, how do you get yourself into these things?

You walked up to him and held out your hand to help him up.

"I hate everything..." he sighed, taking your hand.

"Even me?" You joked, pulling him to his feet.

"Except you"

You looked him over for any injuries but apart from a bruise or two, he was fine. You picked up the broken chair leg and looked at it in confusion.

"How did it even snap? What made it weak?" You questioned.

"Beats me, it was brand new..."

You pulled the broken chair aside and kicked your office chair over to L.

"Take mine"

"Thanks"

You took the broken chair downstairs and left it by the door to taken to repaired later. Then it was back to your cake. As you were mixing the batter a thought came to you, what about strawberry shortcake cupcakes? It'd save you some dishes that's for sure. You got out a cupcake tin and lined them with casings, filling them with the batter and putting them in the oven to cook for about 40 minutes. Meanwhile you started to mix the icing together and cut the strawberries.

The silence was broken by let another crash. You looked up from the icing mix to find L had become a victim again. This time he was starring angrily at the computer in front of him that was showing the blue screen of death, the crash being him smashing the mouse in frustration and trying to wake the computer up, but it was no use.

"That's it! I'm not dealing with this bullshit anymore!" He exclaimed, loosing his cool and standing up.

He let out an annoyed groan of anger and stormed upstairs. Probably off to his room to sulk. You shook your head an sighed. Poor boy, he just couldn't catch a break could he?

You finished up the icing and put it in the fridge, going over to L's computer to read the error message. Yep, that was a blue screen of death alright...

You unplugged it and plugged it back in again, only to have it show the same error message. Damn. You grabbed a chord and plugged one end into your computer and one to his, leaving it to transfer all his work onto your computer so he didn't loose it. It was going to take a damn long time so you went back to your cakes. You cut them in half and put cream in the middle, as well as a layer of strawberry slices. You scooped all the icing into a piping bag and making swirls of icing on the cakes, topping them with strawberry slices.

Finally your mini cake masterpieces were finished, and ready to give to the unlucky detective.

You put them all on a plate and walked up to his room, knocking on the door with your foot so you didn't drop the plate of cakes.

"What?" He said, still annoyed.

"It's me, I have cakes"

"...come in"

You used your elbow to push the handle to the door down to open it, carefully keeping the cakes balanced and walked in, kicking the door closed behind you.

L sat on the sofa, sulking and playing with the lid of the inkless pen.

"Nothing bad lucky about these cakes. I just made them for you" you said, putting the plate on the coffee table.

"You... didn't have to" he replied, picking one up.

"It's the least I can do, bad luck has really been beating your ass today and I thought I'd at least make something good to cheer you up"

He took a bite, his face lighting up.

"These are good!" He smiled.

"Extra sugar, of course" you replied.

He took the strawberry off the top and took a bite out of it.

"This day can't get any worse... everything just keeps going wrong. But... at least these cakes are good" he sighed.

"I plugged your computer into mine to back it up by the way, can't loose all that work" you replied.

Licking the remaining icing off his fingers he smiled, happy that at least you were being nice to him, unlike the rest of the world at the moment.

"Thank you for this... I'm so lucky I have you"

"I don't like seeing you sad" you smiled, opening your arms for a hug.

He gladly accepted, leaning up against you enjoying the warmth of your arms.

"I love you" he mumbled into your shirt.

"I love you too, It can't get worse ok? Things will turn around as long as I'm here" you said.

But, just as you said that, it suddenly got darker and the sound of the air conditioner stopped. The power just went out.

"Ok... apart from that..."
