"Daddy?" I called out, uncertainty apparent.
Daddy had taken me out into the middle of the forest away from the other pack members for some practice on hunting and stalking my prey. I could easily do it, when I'm in the form of an animal but father also wanted me to be able to do it in my human form so I didn't have to rely solely on my animal side.
"Daddy, this isn't fun anymore" I said slightly spooked by the darkness of the forest, it felt as if it were slowly creeping in closer and closer till it would swallow me whole, just like the monsters would eat the little kids in the stories that father would sometimes read to me before I went to bed. I kind of regret pleading with my father to read them to me claiming that I wasn't scared of something that wasn't even real. Saying that I was 9 not 5 and I wasn't a baby anymore, that I was strong like my father. He would just chuckle but would relent and read me the books in the end.
Breath on the back of my neck made me still. My eyes narrowed and my breaths came slightly faster and I could feel my heart increase its rhythmic tempo. Closing my eyes I let my animal side take over though I didn't shift. It was as if I wasn't in my body just watching from a distance as my body leapt to the side landing in a cat like crouch, teeth bared as a sharp hiss of warning rumbled its way from my chest and out of my throat, seeming to echo in the small clearing in the dark forest. A growl answered my warning, coming from a large mass of black and red wolf standing in a stance of attack, head lowered slightly with its lethal canine teeth bared. We stood like that for a moment watching for who would make the first move, it must've became impatient as it was the first to attack. I rolled to the side only just missing its sharp claws from digging into the soft flesh of my side. The large wolf came at me again but this time I wasn't going to run.
