Ugh. Life sucks. Moving to a new place is hard. The unfamiliar surroundings, the lost friendships, and most of all - a new school. Moving to Mason from North Carolina, I was in the middle of 7th grade. I had moved before, so I knew about all the hurdles that came with starting over - but this time, I had no idea what I was in for. This year, my whole life turned upside down - and in not such a bad way, either. It all started a couple of months after school began. I had a few good friends - Sukriti, Aishani, and Vivian. Anyway, I was getting more familiar with the kids in my school, and I knew by now who I could count on, and who I couldn't. I was doing really well academically, making it onto the honor roll. So overall, I was off to a pretty good start. So, one day, I was just poking around the halls with my friends, and something caught my eye. It was a flyer for something called a Black History Bowl. For some unknown reason, I was interested. It was basically a team competition about random facts about black people in history. You might think that sounds pretty boring, but, I'm good at this kind of stuff, and I like to have a little competition. I decided to sign up. Little did I know that this would be one of the most momentous decisions in my entire life. As I wrote my name on the sheet, I noticed one of the other names on the list, and I grimaced. It said, Nick Rowell.
