The clouds are drifting slowly as they cover the sky almost like a blanket of absolute darkness. Pellets of rain collide with her tears as they crash in a merciless downpour onto her grief stricken face. She looks to the skies.
"It seems the heavens are crying for me, too." Her whispered thoughts were nearly silent, yet they could still be heard over the rain as it beats down on the earth as if she were shouting rather than whispering.
She returns her gaze to its previous focus, the young man who had shamelessly broken her heart.
Shouting to be heard over the sudden crack of thunder, she cries, "I trusted you!" A flash of lightning closely follows her words, the gloomy darkness broken for no more than a split second.
"Well then," he speaks over the seemingly quiet, yet somehow loud and persistent crashing of the rain. "You can't exactly blame me, can you?" He questions, his eyes glued to the golden locket balled up in his unforgiving fist.
"It was your mistake," he continues as he redirects his gaze to meet her own and, bringing his statement to an end, he lets out two simple words with a menacing smile, "not mine."
He examines her expression as her heart breaks yet again. He smirks and lets out a boisterous and maniacal laugh. He looks behind her over the cliffs edge, studying the oceans raging temper tantrum. He then shifts his gaze back to the locket. Her eyes widen and her feet instinctively carry her forward a few steps as if they have a mind of their own.
"No. . ." she whimpers before allowing her voice to raise to a desperate cry, ". . .you wouldn't! You can't!"
As if hearing nothing, he tosses it over the edge. She lets out a cry of absolute fear, her features twisting into an expression of horror as she turns and throws herself over the edge after her most prized and powerful possession.
Then, with a crash, she hits the water, believed to have never been seen again.
