Jack's POV (point of view)

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*
Dad's upstairs getting my little siblings dressed, my oldest sister in the kitchen making some toast for me and my older siblings. "I'll get it, dad!" She called up the stairs. I rushed to my sister and grabbed the back of her school trousers as I glared out the doorway. Outside stood two police officers, one female one male. "Is your father home?" The man asked with a mix of horror and great sadness in his eyes as he saw myself, a small 6 year old boy, clinging onto my older sister. "Y-yes he is" she replied and pointed to the stairs "he'll not be a minute."

Dad walked downstairs with my little sister in his arms and my little brother trailing behind them. He glanced out of the doorway to see the police officers, "is everything alright..?" he asked with obvious concern in his voice. "Could we have a word with you in private please, sir?" My dad sat my little sister into April's, my oldest sister, arms and rushed out of the doorway and quickly shut the door behind him.

It felt like ages since he had gone out to talk to the officers. My curious 6 year old self was dying to know what was happening so I jumped up to the windowsill and peered out. I stepped back as I saw my father kneeling on the porch, tears dragging down his cheeks. I'd never seen my father like that before. It was so... weird...

My older brother, Jaxon, grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from the window. "W-what are they doing to daddy?" I asked, tears forming in my eyes. "It doesn't matter, come away from there. Let's have breakfast now" he said with a shaky voice.

My father came in 15 minutes later. It was obvious that he had been crying. Water streaks still marked his face and his eyes all red and puffy. "Dad!" My sister shouted. "What did they say?!" My dad just stared at her, obvious that he was holding back the tears. He picked me up and sat me on the sofa next to my siblings, all 5 of us staring at him which obviously made him feel uncomfortable. He took a long deep breath and finally said "something happened to your mother..."

5 years later...

It's been 5 years since my mother had left us.. my father changed after his sudden loss.. he became more violent and more agressive towards the 5 of us, me especially.. but he has an obvious reason to do so. I come from a religious family and well.. some of them don't mix very well with homosexuals..

My dad would punish me for silly reasons really; not getting every little thing perfect etc.. it was obvious that i was the child that he disliked the most. It wasn't just my father that was homophobic, some of my siblings and almost everyone from school as well.. I wasn't planning on telling anyone just yet until my 'friend' forced me to tell him, then went behind my back and told his friends which told their friends and you can probably see where I'm going with this.. after three days basically the whole school knew I like boys and the fact that my siblings go to my school.. well, that's a different story..

I have one friend that stuck with me after finding out the truth about me, Corey is his name. He's been my best friend since we were 7.. that's when everyone found out.. I get bullied a lot, but Corey is always there to cheer me up.. even though i know he has his own problems, he always puts me first... thats what I've never understood about him..

First day of Year 7, 1st year in Secondary school...

I was terrified.. Corey had left me and i still hadn't gotten over that.. I was all alone... No one by my side.. All alone in this huge school..
(I'll get to what happened to Corey later on in the story)

"Hello!" chirped a voice behind me, startling me and causing me to jump forward a little. "I'm Maeve!" I turned around to see a girl, inches taller than me, with strawberry-blonde hair looking at me with a smile spread across her face. I looked at her with surprise, as no one ever talks to me. I suddenly caught eye contact and quickly turned my face to look at the ground, my face blushing with embarrassment. She let out a little giggle as she held her hands up to her mouth. I could tell that she was the 'shy girl' type..

As soon as I walked in my first class, I could hear someone shout something directed at me.. "Hey faggot!" I turned my head to face the source of the noise. I recognised who it was straight away.. Gabriel.. one of my old class mates from Primary school.. he used to bully me a lot.. Everyone turned to stare at me.. I knew at this point that it wouldn't be long before the whole of this school would find out my secret..

To be continued..

Side note: I live in England and have no idea how the American school systems etc work so I just based the story in England, I probably will use some American words in this by accident. Also my spelling isn't great either, hope you undserstand <3
