Erin's POV

I stared at the girl in the mirror staring back at me. She was nothing like the old me. She had chestnut brown hair cascading down her shoulders. She had bright blue eyes, glossed lips, rosy cheeks and a beautiful smile.

The old me couldn't have been more different.

I used to have gargantuan black glasses that made me look nerdy, not that I wasn't, and a head of messy brown curls. I shuddered at the thought of my old self.

High school was here and I wanted to be a new person. Not the old nerdy Erin Porter. The new and improved Erin. Charismatic, beautiful, alluring. And smart.

I slicked on another layer of lip gloss. I couldn't believe how vain I got after my makeover. I hope this new trait will get me into the Shinies. (My own name for the popular people.)

I got downstairs and almost tripped on the way. I was still getting used to living in this new mansion. We recently moved to this town. Dad had suddenly gotten really rich because of his software, PorterTV. It's basically this thing that allows you to watch videos anywhere without Wi-Fi or 3G. Isn't that cool? (A/N: DISCLAIMER: PorterTV does not exist. Obviously.)

"Good morning, Dad," I greeted him casually. He nodded dismissively.

It has been him and me all this long. My mom-- that stupid bitch -- cheated on poor, innocent Dad, divorced him and left us on our own. I hated her ever since.

It was the first day of high school. My chauffeur was waiting for me to enter the limousine. It was sleek and shiny. I took a seat at the back.

When we reached the school, I got out of the limo. People were staring at me. Today I wore a cashmere jacket with mini jeans and blue pumps. Some boys even winked at me.

I walked past this particular boy. I bet he was a Shiny. Not to mention, my neighbour too. Eric Reese. He was a total hottie. No doubt every girl had a crush on him. I was a lucky one since we were neighbours. I had a tiny crush on him.

I could sort of see what he was doing through my window since his room window was facing mine. But perhaps he was just too lazy to get curtains because he never covers the windows or anything while he's changing. I would just sweep my curtains down if I were changing.

But the thing is, we've never talked before.

Girls surrounded him and took every chance to talk to him. He gave them an eye-blinding smile which made them all swoon. I rolled my eyes. I wouldn't do that.

Then, he shot me a wink.

All these people were probably friends in middle school. But I just moved here, so no one knew me. I felt so lonely.

Suddenly, this stylish girl walked towards me. She was a Shiny.

"Hi, I've never seen you around. Are you new?" she queried. I nodded.

"Yup, my name is Erin Porter, and you are...?" I trailed off.

"Chelsea Estes. Wait, Porter? Are you John Porter's daughter? Oh my God, the one who created PorterTV?" she squealed. I smiled and nodded.

She dragged me to the gang of Shinies.

"Guys, OMG this is Erin Porter. She's John Porter's daughter, you know, the one who created PorterTV!" She told everyone. 'Ooh's and 'ah's could be heard.

"Welcome to our gang, Erin," Chelsea said. She must've been the leader of the Shinies.

"Thank you, Chelsea," I tried to be natural. I was officially a Shiny!

The bell rang. Time for class.

When it was lunch period, Chelsea brought me to the popular table.

"This is where we'll sit for lunch everyday," she told me.

As we settled down, she whispered to me, "Isn't Eric a cutie?" I nodded slowly. He had these dimples that made him so irresistibly cute.

Soon, the day was over. Because of my dad, my teachers were extra nice to me that day. I was a popular person. My new best friend was Chelsea.

My life had changed for the good.
