Every scary story starts with a dark and stormy night. But in this case, Corrine's happy story starts with a dark and stormy morning.

Sitting on the windowsill, Corrine shivered in her warm blanket. Drinking her hot tea and petting her cat Maxwell, who purred at every touch.

Her mother, who had left very early in the morning for her accountant job, had taught her young daughter how to do many things by herself. Corrine knew how to do almost everything, seeming as she was ten years old and basically a genius.

"Come on Max, lets get breakfast." Corrine said to the large orange cat, he meowed as she picked him up and shuffled across the cold, hard wooden floors.

The cold wooden cabin was old and gigantic. Pictures sat of the her mother and herself in different places at different ages. There were a few of her grandfather and mother, who she had never met. There was one picture of one of her uncles named Thorton which she thought was strange, but she heard the family was part Norse. So she just went along with it. She had also heard about her other uncle, who's name she'd never heard, not being spoken to by anyone in the family.

Finally getting to the even colder kitchen, she sat down Maxwells bowl and filled it with cold chicken and hot gravy that she had quickly heated up.

"Here you go Max." She said almost impatiently, seeming as it was 6am and she was still tired. She gave a large yawn and rubbed her small head, which was covered in short brown hair. Her brown eyes were grey with boredom, and her cute little nose crinkled each time a breeze came upon her face.

Going into the large library, which she had found on one of her moms business trips, she sipped on more of her tea and some crackers she had brought from the kitchen.

Grabbing a large book from the shelf, she read in the fire light and drank tea until the dark and stormy morning turned into a fall afternoon.

Getting tired to the book she was reading, she got up and got dressed in a small beige overall dress, with a thick sweater under it. She clipped her brown hair out of her face and put on some large grey rain boots.

Stepping outside, Maxwell in her hands, she smelt the fresh air that was left over from the thick rain fall. The fresh morning dew swept over the rich grass. The brown and orange trees covered the forest behind the cabin, sealing away the thick bright lights of sun shining through.

Letting Maxwell go, she kept walking through the forest. Hopping around and jumping on sticks, whistling AC/DC songs through the forest.

As she walked through the trees, she heard a faint cough and someone crying hard.

"Who's there...?" Corrine asked with a sudden bravery she didn't know she had, although the fear in her slowly faded upwards towards her thoughts.

Another cough rang out, and whoever was there felt an awful pain and fell down.

"I said who's there!?" She asked again, this time with a more stern voice. Which came from her fear of who it could be.

After a few seconds of no more answering, Corrine took matters into her own hand and stepped behind the brush. Seeing a younger man on the ground, bloody and crying on the thick leaves that had been piled on the ground. He looked as though he was in his twenties, with slick black oily hair, which was covered in blood. His pale face was covered in bruises and one of his eyes was swollen black and blue. Cuts of red and black covered his body, which she could see through his torn leather black and green clothing. Which looked like they were from another world.

Corrine gasped seeing his sad form, which was curled up into a fetal position.

"Sir...?" She asked his, quickly walking toward him. Trying to pick his almost lifeless body up by herself.

"Don't help me mortal...just leave me here to die. Not like your useless thinking could help me." He scoffed at her, not trying to help himself.

"Just let me get you inside, stitch you up, something?!" She cried, tears welling up. She really did hate seeing people like this. So helpless and alone.

"...fine..." he muttered, trying to pick himself up finally. Once he got to his knees she could somewhat drag him into the house.

"Get out of the way Maxwell! He's gonna die!" She ran, crying a little more as he fell on the couch she put him next to.

She went upstairs to get the first aid kit and some towels. As little as she knew about these things. She had to save his life. Even if she didn't know this man's name yet.
