It was fourth year, and Harry was finding himself a bit disoriented. The hormones were raging through his system, and he found himself swirling in emotions he hadn't felt before. He was suddenly looking at people in a way that he hadn't before, and he was finding one person in particular very attractive. Draco Malfoy. Harry was sure that Draco had changed over their summer break. He had always been the blonde haired snob. He had reminded him so much of Dudley that just looking at him made him nauseous.
But, that was last year. This year, he couldn't keep his eyes off of him. Draco was stunning. His pale skin was virtually flawless, and his silver-blonde hair was luscious and flowing. The way his full, pink lips moved when he talked almost left him mesmerized. He had such dazzling grey eyes, Harry was sure he could get lost in them forever. He may have been a jerk, but he was just so gorgeous. Harry found himself drawn to him, regardless of the hogwash that seemed to fall out of his mouth sometimes. Harry would give anything to snog him, just once. He wanted to smell the parchment, hawthorn, and apples in a whole new way, and to feel those lips pressed against his. But, he couldn't bring himself to tell him that. What would Draco think? Perfect, pureblood, sizzling Draco. There was no way he could tell him. It would be devastating.. And, yet, he couldn't contain himself either. The feelings burning inside were just too strong. Harry had to tell someone, but who?
Who could he tell? Who would understand, and not judge him for this enamoration that he felt? Who could he trust? Hermione and Ron! Yes, they were his best friends! If anyone would support him and help him through it, it had to be them, right? That's what best friends do; they love and support each other and help them through their problems. Right?
Harry pulled his best friends aside, under the stairs outside of the common room, where they could speak freely, without fear of anyone hearing. Harry drew a deep breath, found his nerve, and said, "I need to talk to you all. There's no easy way to say this, but I think something may be wrong with me."
Hermione immediately began to panic. "What's wrong, Harry? Tell me your symptoms. I'm sure I can find something in one of my books." Harry tried to speak, but Hermione was over the edge of excitability. "Spit it out, Harry!" Ron and Hermione harped in unison.
"Well.. I keep getting dizzy, and I get these flutters in my stomach, almost like I've swallowed butterflies. And, whenever I smell apples, my palms start sweating, and my heart starts racing," Harry rambled. "And, worse yet, when a certain person walks by, I go weak in the knees and can't speak."
Hermione stifled a giggle. "You can't be serious," quipped Ron. "You're not sick, Harry. You've got a crush."
Ron and Hermione laughed in unison, and Harry felt his face flush.
"A crush?' Harry thought. 'No, that couldn't be right.' Harry had known how he was feeling, but he hadn't had a word for it. 'A crush..'
His thoughts were interrupted though when he heard another set of giggles join in on the group.
"You've got a crush, Harry?" Fred laughed.
"On who?" George squeezed out.
"You can tell us, Harry. We won't say." They grinned in unison.
"I haven't got a crush! This is all just a misunderstanding!" Harry growled out and stomped off to his dormitory. 'What did they know, anyways.'
A few hours went by, and Ron and Hermione poked their heads in the dormitory. Harry was just sitting on his bed, lost in his own thoughts, it would seem. "Are you okay?" Hermione asked gently.
"I'm fine." He answered, not bothering to look at her.
"So, who is it, Harry? Maybe we can help. You deserve to be happy." She nudged.
"Draco." His name seemed to have cut through the room, and the world stood still for a moment. Hermione and Ron were reeling, trying to figure it out.
"You can't be serious." Ron laughed. Hermione shot him a look that could kill, and Ron mumbled, "sorry."
"It's obvious, isn't it?" She said. "So, what are you going to do about it, Harry?"
"Nothing." He said, still blankly staring out the window. "I'm going to do nothing. Just wait for it to pass."
The room fell silent, and Ron and Hermione set beside him, soaking in the silence and trying to figure out what to do. They set there for what seemed like hours, before quietly excusing themselves. They weren't sure Harry even realized they had left the room.
When they walked in to the common room, Fred and George were sitting there, waiting. "Take this," they said, shoving vials of mostly brewed polyjuice potion into their hands.
"Just add a hair of whoever it is that Harry likes. No one need know." Fred said, and the twins walked away, laughing the whole way out.
"We shouldn't." Hermione said, shakily.
"Bloody hell, Hermione. Yes, we should. Think of it, Hermione. We could help get him through this. No one else would ever have to know. You saw him. We can't leave him like that. And this-" He said, holding up the potion vial, "this is how we do it."
She nodded. She wasn't enitrely happy with this idea, but it was a start. Besides, its kind of fun, isn't it? Breaking the rules. It was a harmless enough prank. Nothing too bad could come from it. She still had her reservations, but perhaps it was for the best.
