My heart is pounding in my chest as Intferni swarm around me. A couple of them reaching out and grabbing on my arms and some at my legs. There are so many, I cannot seem to find my family. 'Breathe' I remind myself, going over what I have been taught in my head. I know what to do, and so I let my body temperature start to rise to dangerous heats. Sure enough, my body sets ablaze, which in turn has the Intferni screaming and retracting away. With the new-found room that has been made, I shift myself into a bird and take to the sky. This way I can find my family faster.
In the distance I can see that, just a mere fifty feet from where I am, my mom is about to be grabbed from behind. That is until I step in. I quickly dive down, dropping in hot, yes, the pun is intended, and turn the Intferni to ash before it could harm her. My mom looks behind her and locks eyes with me. Her warm smile creeps onto her face and she makes a shield of water around us before turning it to ice, so we could have a moment to talk.
"Oh, sweetie you're doing so well! We just need to hold off a little longer until your dad and the Braxton's get here." She says, and she wraps her arms around me tightly.
I smile back, happy to finally be able to help. Although it may be terrifying, I am happy to finally be able to protect those I love most.
We both hear the screaming of the Intferni and look around. There is a bright light, greenery growing around Intferni, things flying, and the intferni start to attack one another. It was then that I knew our back up has come.
I look up at my mom softly speaking, "looks like it is show time."
My mom does a half smirk replying, "seems so."
My mom steps back from me as I shift back into a bird and get ready to melt our ice shield. Mom gives me the signal that lets me know she is ready, and I quickly melt the ice flying off to help the others.
Swooping in and out of the large army of Intferni, turning some to ash every time I go in, I can now see just how quickly the army is dwindling. While flying I got too distracted at seeing Mrs. Braxton, in all her glory of her angelic wings and her annihilating Intferni with greenery, I seem to be flying too close to the bright light.
"WATCH OUT!" I hear screamed from below. I turn my head just in time to see I was about to run right into the bright light. I quickly went into a nosedive, shooting straight down before shifting and planting my feet on the ground. I turn around, setting myself on fire to keep the Intferni away from me. I look up seeing no other than Kade Braxton, best friend to my older brother Theo. I should have known. he is the only person I know that has the power of phosphoromancy.
"Might want to pay a bit more attention next time, huh, Sera?" Kade yells over to me, focusing on bending the light so intfernis burn to ash.
"Nope, I think I'm good," I yelled back, throwing balls of fire at the Intfernis that are trying to attack Kade from behind.
Kade chuckles and focuses on taking out the small group of Intfernis in front of him. I take out about twenty that were trying to gang up on Kade from behind. We finish up until the spot around us clears out and all that is left is Kade and I.
"You are not too bad Seraphine, good job." Kade says, coming closer to me with a wide smile stretched on his face.
"Thanks, Kade, you're not too bad yourself." I respond while lowering my body temperature so that the fire on my skin goes out.
Once the fire is out Kade wraps his arm around my shoulder, "And to think I thought you would be useless." He says while tipping his head back laughing.
