She tapped her long red painted nails on her throne. Queen Lumos rubbed her temple and groaned. "Enough." She yelled and raised her red claws at the maiden before her.
"Your Majesty, If I may explain." The Maiden began to speak but was cut off. Lumos gestured towards Syla, her knight and her weakness. The queen whispered into Syla's ear.
"Her Majesty would like you to leave." Syla demanded.
As the maiden fled the kingdom, Queen Lumos looked at her knight and admired her. Syla was a tall drink of water with ice blue eyes and short dark hair.
"Thank you Sy!" The Queen said with a devious smile as she looked at the blue eyed female.
"Of course my queen." She said. Lumos loved that Syla called her 'my queen' it made her feel good.
"Your Majesty, a visitor is here to see you." One of the servants said running to the queen.
"Send them in Gale." Lumos commanded. She rubbed her temples once more. "Bloody peasants." As soon as the visitor entered, Lumos immediately rose from her throne.
A beautiful woman with dark hair and eyes had walked in. Her complexion was pale and her face was sweet, the opposite of Lumos. The woman wore a grey floral dress and a black shawl, she looked like a real goddess.
"Mother!" Lumos cried out.
"Darling!" Queen Chida said as she hugged her daughter.
She kissed her mother's cheek and smiled. It had been awhile since Lumos had last seen her mother. Chida was the only one who could bring out her daughters sweet side.
Queen Chida was queen of the Capital, which was hours from Lumos's kingdom. She became queen of the capital after everything went to hell with the last queen.
"What bring you to Ember?" Lumos asked. She looked around as if someone else was going to enter the kingdom. "Where's mother?" She asked hoping both of her mothers came to see her.
Queen Chida's face was filled with worry. Lumos studied her mothers face and immediately knew something wasn't right. Silence filled the room as the queen prepared herself for the news she was about to deliver to her daughter.
"Darling, I'm not here to visit. I'm here to deliver some news." Her voice was soft and low. She knew that voice, it was the same voice she used for bad news.
When Lumos was 6 Chida used the same voice to tell her that Lumos's grandmother had passed away. It was the best way to break such news to a young child.
"What is it?" Lumos asked. The two sat down as Chida began to speak.
"It's about the Underworld!" She paused for a moment.
"Mother, I'm not a child anymore. Whatever it is just tell me." She said hoping Chida would just say what was wrong.
"Leviosa is after your kingdom."
Lumos's eyes grew ten times bigger. "That little wench!"
"Lumos!" Her mother was shocked to hear such words come from her daughter.
"I'm sorry mother." She apologized as she paced back and forth. "Where are we supposed to go? And what about Vail?"
Vail was her dragon that she had since she was 18 and she loved and cherished her Vail. Probably more than anything else.
Lumos picked up a glass of water and took a drink trying to collect herself.
"Leviosa wants Vail too."
The glass suddenly broke as Lumos squeezed it in frustration. Queen Chida flinched at the sound and blood dripped from Lumos's hand. She didn't even feel it cut her hand open or notice that she was bleeding terribly.
Her hand shook as it started to hurt and pieces of glass fell from her wounded hand.
Syla quickly ran to Lumos's side and brought her a cloth for her. Syla wrapped the cloth around Lumos's bloody hand carful not to hurt her.
"Vail? She wants my beloved dragon?!" Her voice echoed throughout the kingdom.
"Please lower your voice!" Her mother pleaded.
Lumos turned and scowled at her own mother. "Oh I'm sorry am I supposed to remain calm? That no good wench wants the one thing I love the most." Her voice went up once more.
Her mother was hurt by her words. Lumos's priorities were all out of wack. She was more concerned about her kingdom than her family, but in a way her kingdom was her family.
"I'm sorry mother, you know I care about you. I just really love my kingdom and Vail. I don't want to lose them." She said sweetly.
Queen Chida stood up and moved to her raging daughter. She kissed Lumos's head and smiled at her.
"I have to go now my love. I'll see you soon." Her mother said. Before she left Lumos, Chida turned around and added another thing. "Maybe you could move to the Capital, we could use the help. Plus your mother misses you."
Lumos turned around and looked at her mother. She let out a sarcastic laugh and her face was serious. "I love you mom, but I don't want to start over. Your kingdom isn't big enough for me, Vail and let alone my staff. I will figure this out."
Chida looked down at the stone floor and felt disappointed. She understood her daughter but she just wished for once that Lumos wouldn't be so stubborn. "Promise me you'll at least think about it!" She said. Lumos nodded.
She watched her mother leave the castle and sighed. Lumos turned to Syla and spoke. "Send a message to the underworld. This means war."
