Light shined through the stained glass window, illuminating the dust that floated about. My nose tickled under the light touch of the wind. Bringing me out of my dreams. But like all good things they must end. "JASON" my mother screeched "Get down here now, you need to take your brother to school." UGH, five more minutes please. My face pushed into the pillow as I turned over however after a few seconds I had to move so I could breath. Also I'm going to be home late tonight so you also have to make dinner." My mom yelled. Dust rose as I threw off my blankets onto the wooden floor. My queen size bed creaking as I pushed my weight off and rushed over to my dresser throwing on whatever reached my hand first. My foot banged against the randomly placed 30-pound weight that was from yesterday's workout. An excruciating pain shot up my foot "SHIT". My leg throbbing I limped to my door and threw it open only to reveal a flight of stairs that led down from the attic. As I took each step my already throbbing foot shot with searing pain. "Damn why can't I just sleep in?"As I asked myself this I already knew that answer. My mom was a single mom and she was a surgeon, so she had to work 12-hour shifts, sometimes longer. She didn't even have enough time to sleep less alone time to take care of her kids. I'm 17 so I pretty much have to do everything in the house, from buying groceries or going to teacher-parent night for my little bro. Not gonna lie it was hard but I had to be done. Finally, after what felt like an hour of tripping and angry mumbling I finally reached the first floor. My little brother Oliver with his Batman backpack and a Naruto shirt was hopping from foot to foot holding a half eaten muffin. " Hurry up! I'm going to be late for the first day!" His face reddening from the effort. "Ok bud" I grabbed the keys and held the door open as he dashed to my crimson mustang. My mom works a lot but damn I got to say she made a lot at least enough for us to move into the nicest part of town and own some pretty sweet rides. The drive to Oliver's school was short and on the way, Oliver's mouth did not stop moving, him rambling about something called One Piece. Like every new school, he went to the other kids gawked as we rolled up. " Hey little bud, I can't pick you up today so you got to take the bus." His ecstatic face suddenly turned to a deep frown. " Please, it's my first day of school, IN A NEW SCHOOL, come on Please Jason, Please." He looked at me with those puppy eyes and I couldn't say no. " Fine but then you have to do dishes then" A huge toothy grin appeared on his adorable face. " OK bye see you later Oni san." Wait, what? " Oni San?" "Yeah it means big brother in Japanese" he squealed. My lips curled up into a smile and I could help but think how did he turn out like this" Well, See you around little bro" He hopped out of the car and walked towards his school but before he went it he turned around and waved. Damn even surrounded by kids he remembers me when I was his age I would have just walked straight in not looking back at all. My eyes glanced at the clock and I had to do a double take. SHIT, it's 8:57, school starts at 9:00. I barely let go of the gas as I sped towards school. Damn, and I wanted to make a good first impression, well I could forget about that. Out of the corner of my eye, a black blur moved out from behind a wall of bushes. What is that? Oh shit, I slammed on the brakes and tried to steer away from the blur as far as I can but the roads were covered in a layer of water from the rain from early that morning and wheels slid against the wet pavement. THUMP, the figure flew over the hood of the car, the window slowly turning red from the blood.
