Ever since I was a child i've had a handprint on my shoulder. I never really questioned it until my mother brought it up to me.
"Kacey, would you come here"
"yeah mom, what's going on?"
"i figure it's time i told you considering you're getting a bit older, well you know that mark on your shoulder?"
"mhm, what about it?"
"well, someone is going to interact with it and when they do, you two should fall in love!"
"What, well what if i don't like the person or- or- they don't like me?"
"they will honey, they will. And hey the cool thing about it is when they touch it a burst of color full light and shimmering stars are going to erupt out of your shoulder and float all around you."
"i mean it does sound pretty cool, but now i can't stop thinking about it."
"just try and ignore it, I love you, you should probably start making tracks for bed."
"I suppose, goodnight mom."
I did as she said, went upstairs, and put it out of my head.
~~~~~~~~~~10 years later~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I headed out for lunch, I replayed how my day at work had been going so far, I completed several tasks that needed to be done, aced a meeting with my boss, and now I was going to get my favorite lunch with a childhood friend. I walked into my town's local café and scoped out the area. A sweet old lady shakily drinking tea smiled at me from across the room, a woman with two kids struggled to keep them in order as she spoon fed a baby sitting next to her. I strode up to the register and stated my reservation name. Sat down, I scanned the neat menu, and decided that when Kady got there i'd order a fruit salad and biscuits. Then from across the room I saw her. Shiny brown hair and all, decked out in a short flowery dress, blue painted nails, and a pair of doc martens on her feet. She walked over and waved.
"Hey!"
"Kady, take a seat!"
I pulled up a chair for her, and pushed her in, a real gentleman's move on my part."
"So, what's new?"
"My gosh so much, i'm getting a new house, my dog is pregnant, and just -sigh- it's great to see you" she sung as she smiled that stupid dopey smile she does
"i've missed you too, and i'm glad to hear that everything is going good."
we talked for hours and ate to our hearts content. She suggested halfway through that when we were done we went for a stroll through an art gallery that was down the street. I agreed as we headed for the gallery.
"I'm having an amazing time, I wish this day could last forever"
"Me too." I said "me too."
