It's hard to get over your first love. Helena Hartley and Tony Stark are prime examples of such a thing. Helena was special to Tony. She was someone he could trust, be vulnerable with, and the mother of his only child, Lauren Stark. Their relationship brought more good into his life than anything, but Tony was always one to self-destruct. His undying focus on work and his fear of abandonment and loneliness would become the downfall of his relationship.
A few years had passed since their relationship failed, yet Helena and Tony managed to live cordially for their daughter. Helena has made her own life away from the Stark name, but no matter how hard she tries, Tony always finds a way back into her life.
When Tony comes to her with the idea of building a missile together, they learn it's not so easy to ignore old feelings. But his newfound life as Iron Man makes things even more complicated for the two.
