Run!
I'm running so fast I can't feel my legs, I can't stop. She told me to run, I need to. She said to run as fast as I can, then jump. She said to jump, but I don't understand when.
She said to run. I can't remember why I'm running, why I'm even trying again. It's been five times already! Why do I even bother?
'Cathy, why do I even try? It didn't work the last five times,' I thought to myself.
Catherine Melody, she's no doubt the most stunning, intelligent, and humorous fairy in our tribe. She is probably the oldest too.
Me? I'm just boring Fayeren Lynne. I can't even fly yet!
Although, that's what I'm training to do, to fly.
Cathy said that if I ran fast enough, my wings would spread. The last part is for me to jump of the cliff, and fly. I was told it would come ever simply to me, it would just happen.
My mother said I had the most exquisite wings, stupendously large, she'd always say. I believe Cathy thinks so too, she just won't admit it. My wings are unique, nobody's wings are like mine. My wings stretch father than anybody's, mine have more feathers too.
My mothers and fathers weren't like mine, theirs were normal, before they died.
I keep running, even as my eyes sting with tears with memories of my parents flood my mind. The fifth time, it has to happen, right?
All my other attempts were futile, my wings wouldn't appear and I couldn't jump off the cliff. It happened the same way all five times, but this time I was determined. All my friends had their wings, I need mine too.
As I near the edge, my wings still don't appear. Nothing at all. What is wrong with me? Why won't it happen?
I think of my mother, how she would sometimes have her wings retracted and they would hit father. He would get that look on his face, the look of ultimate confusion, but laugh as it hit him once more.
I giggle, oh, how I missed my parents.
I feel the ground move slightly, another shake in the planet, I assumed. How wrong I was. I did that, I shook the planet with my abilities. My parents always triggered my powers. I will never tell anybody of my abilities, my parents warned me not to. The dangers of knowledge, my father would say, is greater then the dangers of incompetence.
There wasn't any ground beneath my feet, I had jumped without my knowing. Although, I wasn't falling, I was flying.
Finally, try after try, I was finally flying. Surges of energy burst out of me. I was finally doing it!
I realize the scenery around me, the beautiful mountains in the distance, the trees that inhabit those same mountains. The village down below in the dazzling sun that rest in the horizon. I tilt my head to the left and right, my wings stretched far out, dancing in the wind. My waist length hair flying in the wind, also.
The only reason I was flying, was because of my parents.
"Thank you, father. Thank you, mother" I whisper under my breath.
I scream as loudly as I can, my excitement cannot contain itself. For I was finally, finally, a true fairy.
