A\N: So this story is kind of like a present. You are wondering what exactly it is and when you find out... well you find out.

It's an Avatar Fanfiction, could take place in the second book and this time, I believe there are no real spoilers if you don't know the show that far, yet. But I just assume everyone does.

Maybe proceed with caution, there is no NSFW in it but I did write "hell" once. I think I'm being overly cautious with these warnings, but better safe than sorry.

Enjoy

Walking the busy streets of Ba Sing Se, the city of walls and secrets, is one of your favorite past-times ever since you had to flee from Omashu. Leaving everything you know behind sounded hard at first but you accept the fact more and more, so much even that it doesn't really bother you at this point.

You are happy to be safe, happy that there is no war in Ba Sing Se, just peaceful, absolute perfection.

With a genuine, warm smile you look up at the walls protecting the city from whatever is happening on the other side and you firmly believe that you could not care less about those things.

But what you see there immediately wipes the glad expression off your face.

Something so very faintly that one is just barely able to see it. A crack like a hair, yet so prominent to you that it makes you wonder why no one else sees it or if they are just ignoring it.

Your gaze wanders through the crowd for a while. Merchants, fugitives, all sorts of people going on about their day, not a single one of them taking note of what you are seeing. Maybe you are imagining things, you tell yourself and shake your head at your silly, unreasonable worry.

You close your eyes and take a deep breath, hoping that things will just be normal once you open them again.

As you do, however, the hairline crack is already turning into a full fissure, expanding more and more, like flowing water.

Your mind is racing almost as fast as the crevice expands and not knowing what to do you turn around quickly, trying to run as far away from the horrific scene that sure enough still plays behind your back.

Despite the desire to leave, you can't. It is not your fear preventing you from moving, your feet are not failing you.

Before you stands a girl, her jet-black hair is falling wildly into her face, the aura surrounding her seems to crackle.

You know her from somewhere but your mind is too occupied with the unfolding horror surrounding you to find that particular memory. Your attention shifts back to the wall behind you and you turn your head to see big chunks falling from the once protective structure.

Suddenly you realize something that you should have noticed before. The once busy street is void of people except for you and the girl. The only noises you can hear are the raspy, heavy breaths that escape your throat and, from the other side of Ba Sing Ses walls, the shouting and stomping of what you assume to be soldiers.

As you are still trying to piece the situation together the black-haired girl lets out a brutish, angry roar and charges at you. Shocked you take a step back but you get thrown to the ground.

The girls weight pins you down and as you hesitantly lock your frightened stare with hers and see that there is a wildfire burning behind her golden eyes, which seems to be enough of an impact to send your memories spiraling.
