"Although I didn't want to be there, it was not that bad." Olivia thought as she admired the fireworks that were lighting up the night sky. This colourful warmth made her escape the moment she was living in, just for a little while. Closing her eyes she exhaled a deep breath as her lips formed what seemed like a smile. It was just her and herself, nobody else. These precious seconds lifted her heart into the air allowing her to fly freely without any concerns or fears. The reason, unknown. But the one thing that was certain, was that if she could she would never let it go. She needed that chance, to be free...
The sound of fireworks covered the chatter of the crowd that was stunningly admiring the beautiful view. The girl then heard the voices of people sing as one, " 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2..." the final countdown of the year. Olivia was still staring at the sky without paying attention to her surroundings. She was so lost in the moment that she didn't realise the world literally vanishing under her feet.

London is known for the wonderful New Year's Eve live performance near the town church. Even now, that 2021 was coming to an end having nobody realise how quickly it faded.
Just out of the city, where the fields and hills of watery grass fill the eye, there was a house. A big, old fashioned maisonette that escaped the busy, loud life of nearby town and peacefully aged day by day, year by year.
Even though the owners were more than capable financially, they found it difficult emotionally to change anything about the house, anything that would bring it in a more fashionable state. It was an old family resemblance and heirloom having any kind of change strongly forbidden.
Olivia Ashfield and her family lived in this house. As the first child of the Ashfield family, Olivia had certain jobs and duties only a first born would ever burden... at least that was what expected of her. However it must be highlighted that she hardly ever missed anything from her life. She had everything she desired within a hands' reach, but apparently it was not enough... She could not see how lucky she was having her parents and siblings care for her deeply, a house, education. Some could even say that she was spoiled to death, but for some reason nothing mattered to her.
She had stopped listening to everyone long ago, as she was now 18 years old. Her personal life wasn't any better. School had finished for her last summer and she was currently working in a coffee shop in the middle of town. As extraordinary as it seems, she used a red bicycle to travel the distance every single day without having a care in the world if she fell or if she got exhausted. Yes, it was a long distance but she couldn't bother sitting for her licence, besides, her rides to town were the only thing that she truly enjoyed these days...
Only a few days were left for the wonderful New Year's Eve so everyone had at least a week off of work, as well as Olivia and the rest of her family.
Her parents had "begged" her multiple times to join them in the firework parade the night the year would change, but she always refused to answer, sighing annoyingly. She indeed was not a peoples person at all. In other words she enjoyed her peace more than engine could imagine, loneliness was her relaxation.
All her parents ever wanted was for her to be different than she is. A normal daughter, kind, well behaved, feminine... or whatever their definition of feminine was, but the opposite of what they wished for manifested through Olivia's form.
The girl couldn't care less about her appearance or her manners. She lived in her own world keeping everybody's business away from her own. The only friend that will never leave or betray you is yourself, as she would usually say.
Any kind of contact or communication with her siblings had died long ago bringing, in a matter of fact, the end of their familiarity. Olivia was truly alone, at least that was what she thought. " Nobody understands, nobody listens, nobody cares... so why should I?"
At this point all her parents were left to want was the chance to see her happy for once, smiling, even making a sarcastic joke would be enough. They missed spending time with her after she became so distant for a reason they could not see.
