Opening the door: Possibly one of the biggest decisions I regret the most in life.

I could remember like it was yesterday, it was year 1993. I just moved in my then new house. It was just me and my mom. It was about our third day here and we were still unpacking and settling in. I was walking around the house and bouncing a basketball and chewing gum as I'm very bored. I look at all the rooms very boring, very dull.

"Maribel?" I heard my mom's voice call me coming from the kitchen. I run down the stairs to come see what she needed. "Yes Mom?" I say a bit bored. She looks at me, "Uhh I was thinking you could keep it down on the basketballing in the house? Come on its very old and I don't want you damaging anything." I groan, "But mom, I'm so bored!" She nods, "Well why don't you take it outside then? Come on it's so nice out get some fresh air from all this dust. Now, you got asthma."

I nod and puts some shoes on and goes out saying that I love my mom. I walk along the sidewalk bouncing my ball, before spitting my gum out as it's lost it's sweet fruity flavor and just taste like gross paste. I keep going bouncing my ball untill I notice two kids. A boy and a girl, couldn't be no older than none, or eleven. They were really pale, slender. They wore really old fashioned typed clothing. Like they just came out of the 1930s.

I couldn't see their eyes since they were looking down. The atmosphere felt different. Like it the surroundings wasn't real and me and the kids were in another dimension, like a simulation. I felt really out of body.

Just then, the little kids started to walk right up towards me! I gasp but I couldn't even move. Like I was paralysed right in that spot. I felt so terrified, my heart was going one hundred miles an hour. Then, the kids stopped about three feet in front of me. Their heads were still down, and I didn't hear any breathing whatsoever.

Just then they lifted their heads up and I couldn't lie, they had the most chilling looks I've ever seen, my blood ran cold. Their faces were extremely pale, almost sickly. Slender faces, thin lips, hooked noses, and....black eyes. Big gaping circles of blackness of where their eyes should have been.

"Uhhh, are you two alright?." I say uneasy. "We need to use your home phone." The little girl tells me, completely disregarding my question. "Please let us use your home phone." She keeps saying. "Um any specific reason why?" I ask scared. But then, the kids keep quiet. Then they inch forward towards me an I bolt forward leaving my basketball behind me. I run straight home scared praying to god they didn't follow me.

Later on the day, it's at the end of dinner time. Me and my mom talks about different things. I decided on not to tell her about the incident with the children with the black eyes. I somehow didn't think it was important. Just then, we hear a violent knock on the door. The knock seemed so strange, like very soulless. My mom makes a strange face. "Now who could that be?" She gets up to the door.

I have an uneasy feeling, I follow right behind her. She looks through the peephole. Her eyes widen. I jump up, "Mom? What's wrong?" I whisper. Just then, we hear, "We have to use your home phone." The voice sounded so childish. My heart sank realizing that the same kids from earlier are now at my front door. My mom tells me to go hide while she gets help.

She sounded so terrified and I could understand why. She disappears in the backroom telling me to be quiet. I then look out the peephole again. The kids were looking up, as if they knew I was watching. My heart dropped. "Please let us In, we're lost and we need a phone." Says the little boy.

I keep quiet shaking my head, gosh why won't they just go?!. Just then the little girl holds up my basketball. I gasp. "We have your ball." Says the little girl. Just then, the burning feeling to open the door for to get my ball was taking over. I don't want their little ghost hands all over my ball! It's a good ball! I then had no choice but to open the door.
