The energy and thrill radiating from the midnight air was breathtaking. He could feel it just by running across the city rooftops, jumping from building to building. He keeps moving until he reached a cafe on the outskirts of the city. It was 3-stories tall and made of orange brick that looked like it has seen better days. He then perched himself on the cafe's roof and glanced over to a shadow covered alleyway across the street. The man looked as if he was in his early 40's, with his faded black hair and pail skin. He was wearing a long grey trenchcoat that was just above his knees, baggy black pants, gloves, a mask that covered his mouth and a cap covering his face.
He lifted his cap to reveal his fiece looking electric blue eyes, and stared at the gloomy alleyway as if waiting for something to appear before him. He waited, sitting on the rooftop for 15 minutes when a dark figure appeared from the shadows of the alleyway. He found what he had been looking for. The figure took a few steps out into the low flickering ray from the streetlight. As the shadows fell away the dark figure became a girl.
She had shiny, wavy black hair that fell around her shoulders and down her back. She appears to be 16 years old wearing a dark grey beanie, a mask covering her mouth, fingerless gloves, a black long sleeved shirt, thin pants and knee high boots. She then turned up to the roof where the man was perched, doing so made her midnight green eyes glisten in the street light. Then within the blink of an eye, she bolted across the street and jumped the 3-story cafe onto the roof, right behind the man. She took a few steps forward. Her boots leaving a soft clicking noise with every step she took until she was at the man's left side.
"Hello Master."
The man chuckled and turned to face her as he removed his mask to reveal a friendly warm grin. "Oh Wendy, how many times do I have to tell you, there is no need for formal introductions when it's just the two of us." Wendy shrugged and kneeled down next to him then sat on her knees. "Ok fine. So Uncle Ren, why have you called me? Has there been work assigned from the shift? Is there another breakout?!"
He sighed as the smile disappeared from his mouth. "Yes, there has been work from the Shift Counsel." He then looked up and stared into the blank, empty sky. "They're thinking of gathering a raid for the next breakout. The Rift Field is going to crack again, but this time the space is big."
"How big are we talking about?" Then she realised that is not the question she should be asking. Wendy looked at him. "Why did you call me here?" He was still staring at the sky, knowing she could figure the answer out herself. Then Wendy's eyes widened in shock. "You're leaving, aren't you. Master that is suicide! Why are they sending you out to the front lines?!"
"Pardon Wendy." He looked her dead straight in the eyes with a serious expression. Her throat shut, almost as if she became paralyzed or frozen in place. He smirked. "Do you really doubt me that much Wendy?" He shook his head. He put his gloved hand on her left shoulder and pulled her next to him. "And what did I say about calling me Master, I'm your Uncle. I'd like to be called by my name, especially by my family please Young Lady."
Despite her worries, she pulled her mask down around her neck and smirked. "Sure thing Uncle Ren, whatever you say." She then gazed into her Uncle's eyes again, without knowing this would be the last time she would ever see him again.
