Bobby laid in the queen-sized bed, counting the little bits on the textured ceiling. Anything he could do to distract himself, keep his mind busy. Athena subconsciously moved in her sleep and had managed to position under his arm. He hoped she wouldn't hear him thinking. Bobby still went to those places in his head and his dreams, and he couldn't, wouldn't tell her. She was strong, but carrying them both would be too much for him. It may be ego talking, or Catholic conscious, but letting someone in was a challenge. He was the captain, a leader who needn't never waver. People's lives depended on that. Athena though, was strong willed and gave everything to them. She carried her family long before he even knew.
"Now, I can hear you thinking." Athena's low, tired voice echoed through his clouded mind. He shook his head and fell back in reality. Bobby turned his head to see her turned to look at him. She was balanced on her arm. "Just a loud mind. I'm okay." He said to her, putting off the subject. Athena though, knew better. She knew this man better than anyone now. Athena snuggled into him, mumbling. "Wanna talk about it?" Bobby took a large breath. "No." He said quietly. "Don't worry. Just sleep." Bobby smiled. Athena traced on his chest in little circles, still unconvinced. "I'm trained to spot lying." She teased. Bobby looked at her. "How did I deserve you?" Athena furrowed her brows and sighed. "I'm just lucky enough." Bobby scoffed under his breath. He couldn't believe after everything she knew about him, that Athena wasn't running. He couldn't blame her for dodging that bullet if she wanted to. "Bobby, what happened in your past doesn't make you less of a man. I love you for the man you are, not the man you were. Not a damn thing in the world can change that." She then kissed his lips with a strong, comforting grip on his cheek. Bobby heard her, but making himself believe it was different. He would never understand how he deserved her. Athena dozed off again in the warmth of his body. Bobby felt quiet for once, and closed his eyes.
