"Ugh, mom stop." I said to her, pushing her hand away from my face. "Delilah, I just want you to look pretty, ok? Just a little makeup won't kill you." "I don't know. It might." I said, rolling my eyes at her. "You would look so cute in this dress I bought you today." She pulls a dress out of my closet that is more pink than peptobismol. "Ew gross. I'll never wear that. Give that to Betty it's more her speed." My mom throws her hands up in disgust. "I can't win with you. I wish you were more like Betty." She said, and that stung. "Thanks, mom. Glad to know you love Betty more than me." I said, grabbed my backpack and left. "Wait, Delilah, I didn't mean that." She said, and rushes after me, but I was already too far down the street with my headphones in. "Only two more years and I can leave Riverdale." I said.
I get to school and I see all my friends in our usual hang out spot. "My mom is literally drowning me in her ideas of what she wishes I was like." I said, and plopped down on the couch next to Veronica. "What did she say this time?" Archie asked. "Bought me this ugly pink dress and when I declined, she said she wished I were more like Betty. No offense Betty, but not everyone can be rainbow, sunshine, and pretty in pink." Betty looked at me as if she should be offended, but instead she said, "Well I think what you wear everyday is more you than any pink dress." I looked at Betty and just chuckle. "Thanks, Betty." I said. The bell rang and we all went our separate ways. "Come on, Archie we don't want to be late for History." Archie grabs his bag and mine before I can pick it up. "Archie, you don't have to carry my bag for me. I can do it." "Nah, it's fine. I don't mind." Those words send a blush to my cheeks, which I hid my face so he couldn't see, not that he would have anyway. "So are things at home that bad between you and your mom?" Archie asked. "Nothing worse than usual. It's just mostly words said and she always takes it back, but it doesn't change the fact that we'll have the same argument the next day and the same words will be said." I said, not really wanting to talk about my personal life, but with Archie I can't help but open up to him. We get to history just as Mr Weatherbee came on the intercom, "Classes are cancelled today. Danielle Founds was found dead this morning. If anyone needs to talk to anybody don't hesitate to reach out." He said, and with that we had the rest of the day off.
We meet up with everyone, "can you believe that?" I said. "Yeah, poor Danielle. I can't believe she's dead." Betty said. "Yeah, I overheard my father say that she was murdered. Bullet to the head." Kevin said. "That's crazy." Archie said. "Hey, I'm going to have a party this weekend cause my parents are going on a trip and my mom said she felt bad about the comments so I could invite some friends over, so be at my place at 7." I told my friends. "Archie, can you help me get snacks for the party, my mom left me her debit card." I said, showing them her debit card. "Woo, we can go all out on this party." Veronica said, with a little pep in her step. A party was the last thing we needed and at the same time a party was just what we needed. "Guys, we have to be even more careful, there is still a murderer on the loose. I don't want to lose any of you." I said, wrapping an arm around Betty and looping the other through Kevin's arm. We all stared at each other knowing the next few days were gonna be hard for everyone.
