Daniel Noir
The busy life of an urban society was quite suffocating. Men in suits. Women in office attire. Briefcases in one hand, or perhaps a simple envelope. A phone in another, towards their ear, or, for the more fortunate people, wireless earbuds with microphones, busily chatting away with their clients...
To put it simply, urban society is very, very busy. People with various jobs going around the streets here and there. That isn't to say all of them were businessmen or employees, there were a number who were simply going around the city, looking for food to eat or things to buy. Really, there was just a lot of people.
And they were all far, far below where I stood.
"Sir Daniel, your father is calling for you." I heard from behind me and then turned to see a maid standing in the edge of the living room.
I blinked, getting used to this lifestyle was still taking quite a bit to get used to... nonetheless, I nodded at the maid, Rachel, as I remembered her name.
"Of course."
Standing up from my chair, I found myself annoyed still at how short I was. Well, perhaps that was a given, I was only six years old now, after all.
I was... I was now Daniel Malcolm Noir. A character in a visual novel.
Well, perhaps that was doing a disservice to how real everything is here right now. But yes, I am a character from a visual novel I'd played years ago in my past life. Really, I hadn't thought it to have been all that exciting, it was your usual run of the mill dating sim after all. But, it was quite interesting. That is, interesting in how serious and grounded much of the romance and portrayal of the high school life of characters were. I was quite fond of it, though I'd never really played it more than what was needed to get to the true ending.
Though, there was an interesting aspect to the story... though there were different paths and routes one can go through in the game, all of them can still lead to the true ending, in fact it required one to go through all the paths to get to the true ending. Because, the truth was, there was never a bad ending... all the paths just happened in different points in time.
In fact, you had to go through every path in the correct order to even see the true ending.
But, that was beside the point, I wasn't the main protagonist. Far from it, I was actually one of the main antagonists.
The male antagonist who would trick and deceive the male lead into hating the female protagonist and inevitably lead to the temporary breakup part.
This was why I couldn't be the protagonist, I would have been quite lucky to even be the male lead, but, no, I suppose it would be more interesting to be the male antagonist. I wondered what I could do till then, the game proper wouldn't even start until like 10 years from now.
Besides, I always thought that the bad guys were more interesting. Though... I would hardly do anything truly antagonistic unless I think it would be for my and everyone else's benefit.
Anyhow, I followed Rachel as she lead me to my father, Theodore Claudius Noir, the CEO of the Noir family businesses, mostly Accounting firms and a few food chains here and there.
Regardless, it seems my father was calling for me, if I had to guess, it would be for my entrance exam into elementary school. And it seems, right now, my father was letting me choose.
Truthfully, it's because I slipped and accidentally showed to my father how much different I was from who I had been before. At least, who Daniel was before.
Daniel Noir was a thing of the past the moment I found myself in this body, so it wouldn't have been all that hard to slip up.
Besides, I really suck at playing the innocent kid role, in fact, I generally default to my gloomy yet observant mode. I was simply glad that my father wasn't as cruel as I thought or expected.
