a little girl asked.

"Yeah?"
an older guy responded.

"What's a soulmate?"
this girl couldn't be any older than four.

the man looked stunned. he then bent down to look the girl, eye-to-eye.
"where'd you learn that word?"

"i heard it in school today."
she explained.
"because the big kids were talking about it. what's it mean?"

A little girl asked again.
"What's a soulmate?"

An older guy responded.
"Well, it's like a best friend, but more."

"Oh."
The girl replied.

"It's the one person in the world that knows you better than anyone else."
He explained.
"It's someone who makes you a better person."

"..R-really?"

"Actually, they don't make you a better person,"
The man said,
"You do that yourself."

"Why?"

"Because they inspire you."

"..oh."

"A soulmate is someone who you-you carry with you forever."

The small girl now looked at the man, her ice-blue eyes sparkling with interest.
She was interested on these particular new words to her. 'Soulmate.'

"It's the one person who.."
He trailed off.
"Who knew you, and accepted you, and believed in you before anyone else did, or when no one else would... and no matter what happens, you'll always love them."

"Nothing could ever change that."

"Do I have a soulmate?"

"Of course,"
Jace responded,
"Everyone has one."

"Oh.. really?"

"Yeah. Really."

"A soulmate is someone who, when you meet, instantly there's something there."
The small girl said,
"And.. and then they're nice to you, and they don't push you down stairwells."

"Well.. yeah. Necessarily."

"Then how come everyone I meet automatically hates me?"
She asked,
"What did I ever even do?"
