Chapter 1

Last year still did not make sense to me, nor did it seem logical that I was all of a sudden inside a cave and walked out to find my girlfriend-to-be and somebody who would treat me like a child. Even thinking of this was unnatural but I couldn’t imagine my life being any other way. Dreams containing memories and hints about what was to come, and this was the year that some of those premonitions would come true. I heard a bang in Kristine’s room and asked if she was okay, but she told me that her clothes had fallen out of her cupboard onto her. I walked in and helped her up from underneath the stacks of clothing, and she told me that I should pack for our vacation together. She sat down on the bed and began sorting through her clothes from her beach trip, and I sat with her to talk for a while. “I can’t wait! We’re going to Perth for the first time… well I am. You tell me you were born in Geraldton after all.” She said with and exited tone as she pulled out her dress and threw it into the on suite with the growing pile of dirty clothes. She then began to get to the clothes she hadn’t even worn and pulled out her brown skirt and pink shirt, placing it behind her.

After she had unpacked she took hold of my hand and sat with me for a while, but when she looked at me she seemed so sad. “Remember last year? I nearly lost you… I’m scared it might really happen now, I don’t want to see you die.” She said, leaning against me as she finished speaking. I told her she had nothing to worry about, and that I would always return to her no matter what. She gripped my hand tighter and I lifted her chin and looked into her eyes, telling her she needn’t fear for me anymore. She sighed and threw the brown skirt at me saying I should get out and pack while she got changed, and I asked if she wanted me to bring anything special. She smiled unwillingly as though something was funny and said we weren’t 16 just yet. I threw a shoe in her general direction telling her not to be so dirty minded, but she only laughed about all of this until I left to pack my things. I packed my clothes, Anna’s sword she gave me on my birthday, my drawing things and all the other essentials for the trip. I then picked up the picture of Kristine and me at the Christmas party together, smiling at the camera while I looked surprised at the cameras existence before me. I smiled and wondered how long the good times will last.

I walked out to the dining room and placed my suitcase on the floor next to the chair, and she walked out in the skirt and a bright blue shirt. Kristine pointed out that she had already packed too and I saw her bag at the other side of the room. I looked outside and saw that the stars had aligned into on word, ‘Zirro’, and I wondered why it was spelling the name of one of the super conduits, but much to the detriment of everybody’s well-being, I ignored it. There was a knock at the door which Hopey went to answer, and when he did he came back with a boy named Liam that we had met at the Christmas party. He told us that Anna had told him to stay at this house for the time being, and I told him he wasn’t the first. He shrugged and went to pick out a room when Kristine told me he could have mine, and that she wanted me to move into her room with her. I hesitated but finally agreed to which she giggled and said “You told me not to be dirty…” But Hopey stood up and said to Liam that touching his PlayStation is like signing your own death warrant.

Chapter 2

~The vacation~

I woke up beside her the next day, thankful she had worn clothes to bed and I stood up to get ready for the trip to Perth. After breakfast she woke up and we went to the airport together, where she argued with the baggage handler who turned out to be her friend Dylan, who had no powers and was simply a human. We were asked to board our plane and she told me to sit at the window so she wouldn’t have to feel sick. She held onto my arm as the plane took off and severed her connection to the grounds electricity sources, which was what kept her awake. I watched her fall asleep due to the lack of electricity and put my arm around her to stop her from falling off her chair, the flight attendant asked if she needed a pillow and a blanket and I said yes please that would be nice of you. Kristine was cute when she was asleep, but I’ve mentioned that before haven’t I? She began talking in her sleep, asking rhetorical questions like where is her heart. I wanted to answer but she wouldn’t hear me without a power source to keep her awake.
