Chapter 1:

It's 4:30am, Monday morning. I'm woken up from the kitchen light burning bright. I get up from my bed and slowly grabed a racket laying on the floor and quietly make my way to the kitchen.

My heart sinks to my feet when I hear movement. I try to muster up all my courage to look around the corner. My hands are in the air, gripping the racket ready for anything. My heart races as I jump around the corner, right in front of the imposter in my house.

"Kate!"

I freeze and look at the person in front of me. Thank god I didn't hit her. I give a sigh of relief and put the racket on the kitchen counter.

"Dammit Lucy! Way to give me a heart attack!" I said as I took a seat next to the counter. "I thought you were him!"

Lucy is my best friend/flat mate. She is two years older than me with long blonde hair and pale blue eyes and a body most girls would kill for. She is popular around everyone for obvious reasons. Everyone she talks to instantly likes her.

"I'm sorry Kate, I didn't mean to scare you like that. I just wanted some coffee." She said taking a seat next to me.

"I could do with some coffee" I said "Where were you last night? You weren't home when I fell asleep?"
She passes me a cup of coffee, "Thank you."

"An old friend of mine heard that I moved back here and wanted to catch up" she said "Turns out she threw a whole welcome back party and you know me. I can't say no to a good party."
We both laugh knowing that is true. We sat and talked for a while, until we were rudely interrupted by a loud cry coming from my room.

I sigh "Whats the time?"
Lucy looked at her phone and answered, it's just past five."
"It's about time she woke up." I get up, put my mug in the sink and start walking towards my room. The crying turned into screaming.

"I'm coming! I'm coming!" I said entering my room. I walk towards the little crib in the corner of my my room next to the window. "See" I said picking up the now screaming baby "I'm right here baby, I'm right here."

She stopped screaming as I rocked her in my arms and hummed a song to her. Her hazel green eyes stared into mine and then she smiled. What a beautiful little smile. "I love you, my little baby." I said and gave her a soft kiss on her head.

Lucy came into the room and stood leaning on the door frame. She is the only persone that knows everything that happened between me and Hazel's father and I would like to keep it that way. Hazel has never seen her father and hopefully she would never have to.
