It was a cold and dark night on the south side of London. The chilly wind rattled the old doors leading to a rundown boxing arena. This was the place the famous boxer KSI went to train. KSI, or his real name JJ, was a one of the top Boxer's in the world at the moment, he was a dark skinned young alpha from South Africa and was in a position he never thought he would be in. His success started a year prior when he just entered the league after winning countless outside matches in south Africa, even though he struggled, he managed to work his way to the top. He and his group, he called the Sidemen, often went to this rundown ring that no one used to practice in peace. Sure all the really expensive rings with the exclusive trainers were nice but it could never beat this ring. This ring was where it all started for JJ, he had moved from South Africa to try and start a boxing career in England, as that was his true passion. Soon enough his dreams came crashing down within the first month of being in London, he couldn't find a sustainable job, didn't have enough money for a place to live, and couldn't even begin his dream boxing career. it wasnt all fairytales like he had hoped. His goal almost seemed untouchable, he was soon stuck in an alleyway in the pouring rain on the south side of London, the worst place to be. Just as he was contemplating giving up, a certain welsh alpha entered his life. Standing there over JJ in the pouring rain, was none other than JJ's now the best friend and mentor, Will Lenney. Will was the one that got JJ back on his feet, and for that JJ would forever be in his debt. Will pulled a few strings and got him everything he needed to get started, an apartment, a job at a restaurant as a dish boy, and found a few beginners matches that he could enter. When JJ asked how he did all of it, Will just said "they all owed me a favor" with a dumb grin. The next issue that came his way was that he was a little rusty. The closest thing he could do to practice was punching a punching bag and that wasn't good enough, that's when Will introduced him to the ring that him and his mates were now fooling around in. he also did JJ one other thing, gave him an opponent, himself. At first JJ was very hesitant and questionable about this, ya he might have been rusty, but he could still pack a punch, and he didn't want to hurt Will. He barely knew the guy.
"You sure about his mate? I mean I don't want to hurt you" JJ says with a chuckle as he takes his sweater off. JJ was ready in his gear, shorts, gloves, everything, and Will was in a thick jacket and some fashionably torn black trousers. JJ had every right to be concerned, Will didn't look like he had the biggest muscle mass. He was a bloke about 6'2, had fair skin, black hair that was done up in a messy quiff, blue eyes, and quite a noticeable jawline. Even with all these features, he didn't look the strongest.
"Come now, I'm not taking the piss. Don't underestimate your enemy mate" Will says with a sly grin while taking off his coat, revealing a black T-shirt underneath, JJ could tell he wasnt the most creative dresser.
"Alright but don't tell me I didn't warn you" JJ says as he jumps into the ratty old ring. Will calmly entered the ring, looking a lot less hyped than his partner. Will was completely relaxed with his hands in his pockets, JJ was bouncing around with his fists up ready to strike.
"You ready" JJ asks with a malicious smile, Will just gave a small lazy smile back and nodded. That was the moment that JJ went in. he was fast and accurate, he was almost positive he was going to hit hard, and his thoughts were confirmed when he made contact with Wills stomach. something was off though. JJ looked at his fist and relized that his wrist was aching, Will hadnt moved a muscle, like the punch meant nothing. when JJ came back to reality it felt like he had just hit a brick wall at full force, and was shocked to see Will looking down at him, not in pain, but in a casual manner.
"That was a little lazy don't you think. Come on big guy, don't hold back" Will says with a tight-lipped smile, giving him the coldest look he had ever seen. JJ took his hand back, shaking it from the aching pain that Wills abs had given him, and analyzed his opponent closer. He decided 'fuck it' and started throwing punches hoping one would make significant contact. He had no luck. Will had successfully dodged all of them and soon got bored, reaching out and grabbing his next punch like it was nothing. The then pulled JJ in by his fist and landed a punch to the face with his free hand. JJ fell to floor upon impact, groaning in pain.
"Well we got some stuff to work on, you're pretty sloppy" Will said as he walked over and crouched down, patting JJ on the Back. JJ sat up slowly, revealing the developing bruise on his cheek and the blood on his teeth.
"I don't understand, how did you do that?, what did I do wrong?" JJ asked while looking down at his gloves.
"I'll brief you tomorrow. Its late. I want to see you here at 7 am so we can go over some stuff. Alright?" Will says with a smile while helping JJ up. JJ just nodded and went to get some normal clothes on. As they were walking out JJ started with the questions.
"Why didn't you tell me you are a fighter, how ddi you get that strong, and where did you learn to dodge like that?" JJ asked in astonishment, wanting to know the origin of his power
"I learned it from an old 'friend' of mine and I don't do anything with my skills really" will says with a chuckle. Will walked JJ back to his apartment and payed him a farewell.
Soon the next morning came and JJ was excitedly packed his things and hurried over to the ring. When he got there, Will was sitting criss cross in the ring. His head was tilted upwards and his eyes were closed, he was peacefully humming and totally in his own world. JJ almost didn't want to disturb him, as he looked so peaceful but he really wanted to get to learning.
"Hey you alright there Will?" he asks with a chuckle as he got a jump out of Will.
"Sorry, I was practicing me meditation" Will says cheerfully, getting up to greet JJ. JJ burst out laughing as he met will in the ring.
"You serious, that's the weirdest thing ive heard from an alpha" JJ says, almost rolling over laughing. Will just watches him with a grin, waiting for him to come back to his senses
"Anyway, we have to get to work. That performance last night was pitiful" that comment seemed to sober JJ up.
"Alright coach, what exactly did I do wrong?" JJ asks exaggeratedly as if he really did nothing wrong. Will just smirked at his confidence, will really did love the fire JJ had and his willingness to listen but be arrogant about it at the same time.
"Well tough guy, for one your posture was off. That hunched posture works for some but not everyone. You need to straighten up, your muscles will be able to react better. maybe when your reflexes improve a bit you can go back to that posture" Will says bluntly. He moves behind JJ, straightening his shoulders and getting him into the right position.
"There that's better. Now for the strategy. I have to admit you have good punches and you were pretty fast, i'm just a really tough opponent. That doesn't mean you can't improve. You also need to think more. You lost your train of thought when you saw that I could take a punch or when I was dodging all your shots so you panicked and started punching wildly. That's going to get you nowhere in a fight. So i'm going to help you" will explains with a smile. JJ just looks at him in astonishment. He's never heard those things before. He's never had a trainer before either, just his dad and his brother who helped him out ocassioanlly. This sparked the fire inside JJ and at this moment he became more determined than he's ever been.
"You got it coach" JJ says in determination. Will smiles and chuckles at this. He could see the fire burning within him, and he loved it.
