Harold stared straight at the pair of onyx orbs with confusion. He can't really explain the emotions that swarmed him the moment Lyka lifted her head and stared at him with such confidence of a monarch. In all his lifetime, this once, he felt so small as if all his confidence retreated in the inner most part of his soul with just a glance of those sinister tinted eyes.
Silence hung in the air. What's happening? What brought this on? Why is she acting like that? So many questions left unsaid as they watch Harold's stiff figure looking like a deer about to be run down a car.
Actually, this is the first time they saw him like that. Ever. But what's really bothering them is whom it was directed at. Such an emotion to be portrayed on their friend's face, the reason why the so-called 'Ice Prince' let his guard down and let it show how overwhelmed he is, is something to be concerned of.
All of them looked at him the moment he uttered such words laced with uncertainty. It may have been said in his breath but they heard him loud and clear. They've completely forgot the main reason why they were panicking a while ago.
Next to Harold, Pau slowly shifted her attention from Harold to Lyka.
"Hah.." She exhaled through her mouth. She gawked at her. Her eyes widen as her hands started to shake in spasm.
She can't believe what was happening in front of her. The girl she considers a sister, innocent and full of life, exemplifies someone who has every intention of bringing pain, shame, and sadistic ways. Her mind swirling in so many thoughts why such a girl could manifest such a face.
Oh God...
Her shaky hand reached out to Matthew's as if trying to get the support she needed from the lad. There was a slight relief as she felt her fingers met the rough texture of Matt's jeans. She firmly gripped his knee, successful in getting his attention off of Harold.
With his undivided attention, she looked at him straight to his eyes. She parted her soft lips but no sound came out. There was this sudden lump in her throat that prevented her from voicing out what she saw. She closed her mouth and tried to swallow whatever it was on her throat.
She opened her lips again but met with the same result a while ago. Nothing. There was no sound, not even a whimper, just gaping in the dense air.
The lad felt lost for a while but when he looked closely, there it was. Desperate chocolate eyes wanted to deliver a message to him. Was that fear in her eyes? Matthew couldn't really decipher what it was but he knew it was bad news.
And he guessed correctly. When she looked back at Lyka, he got the message and he too looked at her. He was taken aback for sure but he composed himself afterwards.
"Is this some kind of joke? A prank? Isn't this a little too early for April Fool's Day? Last I checked, it was still on the month of March."
"Hah..." It came from Lyka.
"Hah-Ahahahahahah...."
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"
Everybody's attention was immediately directed at the group, each not saying a word. The four corners of the room filled with a loud laugh with so much contempt. It wasn't every day that this sort of thing happens. In fact, it was so out of character for her to act like a lunatic in front of so many people.
Lyka...
All pair of eyes looked at her strangely. They can't deny that there was definitely wrong with her. The way she is acting now is something to be questioned about. But the million dollar question was, "Why?"
"ÄhahahaHAHHAH...AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"
Whispers erupted, multiple pair of eyes looking, no, staring at the laughing girl filled with curiosity, wonder and to some extent, with dread. It was eerie. They felt eerie that sent goosebumps on their body. Something mysteriously dark, an aura that emits from Lyka, that made them weary and be cautious at all times.
It was hard to breathe. They felt suffocated. Something crept on their spines, it was familiar, something we, humans, felt throughout our lives.
FEAR
"Lyka! Snap out of it!" Harold strongly said. He reached out and grasps both shoulders, shacking the hysterical girl.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"
The others tried talking sense to her but was met with the same result. Their pleas were all ignored.
"Lyka..." Shaine called out, so much desperation in her voice. "Please, snap out of it. Come on, girl. You're scaring us...." She continued, her left hand grabbed Lyka's right arm. It was still met with deaf ears.
"AHAHA-AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!" The hysterical laughter continued.
Arnold, who stayed quite all this time, stood up. "Cathy," He called. He grab her arm and pulled her up. She just stared at him as she was led out of where she was and into the front of the end of the table.
"Stay there." He gently commanded.
Arnold swept her bangs away from her face, then swipe the tears that threaten to fall from her glassy obsidian pools. He noticed her breathing hard and could only guess that her heart beats erratically right now.
Even with her fearful state, she still is beautiful. There was a tinge of blush in her face, her eyes glassy, and her pink lips pursed together. He touched her cheeks and rubbed it gently. Arnold smiled at her, his gaze lock on her face. He only left her side when he saw her nod.
He went to Lyka. "Lyka!" He heard Harold calling the still laughing girl. Harold shook her again, hoping to bring some sense to her. By now, the others were already standing.
"Hey, sorry about this." Arnold said. "I don't usually do this but..." You left me no choice. He continued inwardly.
