Noises. Downstairs. It was the middle of the night, no one should be up at this time. I looked around the dorm room, everyone was sleeping.., no one had heard the sound. It might be the matron/nun in charge Miss Cheng... but she preached early to rise quotes, late nighters weren't like her.
I crept silently downstairs, scared of what I might find, probably it was a burglar looking for valuables..., but they wouldn't find any.
This is an orphanage after all.
Yes I'm an orphan, since I was eight I was in the same old dorm. Same old life.
My name is Clayton William but you can call me Clay or Will. I'm 16 years old, 5"9 and have black hair and brown eyes.
And I still live in an orphanage.
It's not that I'm ugly, deformed, or impaired in any way... A lot of people have wanted to adopt me.
But the moment they see my file they adopt someone else..
The reason. Exactly why I was creeping down the hallway to confront the burglar.
To hit him, maybe even kill him like the man who murdered my parents eight years ago. The court cleared me on psychological clauses but mentioned that I may be unstable enough to kill again.
I just might be...
The front door was open, the night air blowing through my hair ever so slightly, I remembered vaguely my father teaching me how to mask my presence...
Something about staying unremarkable...'because if they don't notice you, they don't know you'.
There were two men talking to miss Cheng.
So she was outside, but why?
I looked at the men confronting her, they looked like typical late night prowlers, except their eyes...
... Which belonged to murderers.
People who don't hesitate to kill..., who see other humans as just objects...
People like me.
Through further inspection I could see that they had guns concealed under their thick jackets, other than their shiny watches and shoes there was no actual commentable features. You could say they were almost.... Faceless..
I watched silently as they punched miss Cheng, the nun who had looked after me for eight years, in the stomach and carried her winded body to a grey utility vehicle parked on the side.
Leaving the front door open I swiftly sidled up to the back of the SUV and held on to the spare tire while keeping my feet scrunched up to the tailgate just as the vehicle started to move. Luckily they didn't seem to notice me hanging there.
I could hear miss Cheng say some muffled words as they took a sharp bend at high speed. Knowing her it probably was something like "slow down."
I clung to this ridiculous thought like I clung to the back of the spare tire.
A policeman noticed me as we passed, but he just smiled... So I waved back.
"Well some people are nice nowadays" I muttered to myself.
I sighed in relief as the SUV stopped in front of...
"Welcome to the Pacific men's club, may I park your car sir?"the eager bellhop asked .
"No need I got this" one of the men with a Cockney accent replied confidently.
Wow a nun in a men's club..., now that's just wrong...
You may be wondering why I call her miss Cheng..
I don't know either, she just told me to do it so I do it.
The utility vehicle had just stopped, which was good since my hands were getting numb..
I had been lucky so far not being seen, however I was still worried the the men would take miss Cheng into the club...
After all, how would I explain my being there if I was able to save her.
