Summer
When days get longer and nights get shorter. My favorite time of year! The season for staying out late and having bonfires with friends while dancing to music and goofing off. Being out, not caring about what time it was and the feeling of freedom is intoxicating. It feels like it will never end but it goes by so fast. It feels like you are having the time of your life until it starts to get colder and you realize it is over. No one really knows it is ending until it truly does but I guess time really does go by when you're having fun.
My favorite thing has to be the cloudless summer sky. The beautiful twinkling from the stars and the bright shine from the moon that cascaded down upon the open fields and forests around us. Nights like those are my favorite time to get out of the house and just think. When I get out of work I love being able to take my Ford F-150 out into an open field, pull down the tailgate, and lay there as I think and stare at the stars. No one knows where I go when I leave to clear my mind. This is my special place. It is nice to be able to get away from the world and focus on the nonsense that runs vigorously through my mind.
As my summer came to an end, it was time for me to get my mind back into school mode. It my last year to be a kid. My friends and I were starting out senior year in high school and I must say I'm really excited but I'm also really nervous. I don't know if I'm ready to be a adult yet, but I know this is my year to learn how to take care of myself so I know how to take care of myself in the future. This is the time in my life where I have to live a little and have fun. I have to be a teenager before I have to be an adult.
Today is my first last day of school. I will be graduating in another 179 days and then it will be time to be an adult. Never did I believe I would make it this far in school because I'm not the best in school. I should say I'm pretty proud of myself for making it as far as I have. I know it may sound stupid for me to be excited about finishing high school, but this is an accomplishment for me. This is going to be a good year for me I can feel it.
"Are you ready to start the last 'best year of our lives'??" Megan asked me as I drove us to school.
"I am so ready! We have to make this the best year ever!" I answered, "And who knows you might get a boyfriend!!" She pushed my arm at my dig at her.
"Oh c'mon Sydney! I'm not the only one who has had issues in the love department! When was the last time you had a boyfriend??"
"Leave me out of this, we are talking about you!" I laughed.
We parked by the front entrance of the school and took our bags out of the back of my truck. As we made our way inside all I could see were heads of children roaming the halls. The freshman were running around like chickens without their heads as they tried to find their homerooms. It seems like every year the freshman get smaller and smaller and their 'first day of school stuff' gets 10 pounds heavier. The other under classman seem to be acting chill and are dressed all nice, unlike the seniors. Most of the seniors get senioritis as soon as they walk through the doors. They dress in sweats and hoodies with messy hair because they don't want to be at school anymore. It is kind of funny if I'm honest.
I made my way to my homeroom with Megan because we are always in the same homeroom. That's how we became friends. I accidentally spilled iced tea on her in middle school on the first day of 8th grade and after that we didn't particularly like each other... like at all but I ended up trying to make it up to her. She like the effort I put in to showing her I was really sorry so we started talking and have been best friends ever since.
"What classes do you think we will have together??" Megan asked excitedly.
"Oh I don't know! I hope all of them!" I laughed.
The teacher came around with our schedules and everyone started talking at once. I read over my schedule and glanced over at Megan. She didn't seem to happy about her schedule.
"What classes do you have?" I asked.
"I have English, psychology, forensics, free period, and gym," she answered, "how about you?"
"I have math, ceramics, forensics, free period, and gym," I said excitedly, "So I guess we have three classes together!"
"I am so excited!! This year is going to be our year for sure!"
"Don't get ahead of yourself, we still have a lot of days to get through until we can make this our best year ever."
The first bell rang and everyone filed through the hallways trying to find their next classes. The freshman were trying their best to stay upright in the sea of students. Then I made it to room 107.
My first class is math... my worst subject ever!
I walked into my class, found a seat in one of the back corners, and proceeded to sit there. I put my stuff down and waited for class to start. I put in my air pods and starting listening to music as I waited. I tapped the desk taking in the masterpiece Throne by Bring Me The Horizon and that's when he walked in so cool and carelessly with his friends. Flashing his big smile and perfect skin sitting on the other side of the classroom.
