The first day of school was today, as I had forgotten to mention yesterday. I feel smarter already! Because slaves aren't allowed in Maine, we pretend Alisha is my adopted sister. We enjoy learning together but she has no friends other than me. It's a real shame if I must say so myself! Immediately after I came home from school, Father told me he'd prefer if I was homeschooled. After all, I was to become a housewife when I'm older, because that is what Mother does. He wants Alisha to be with me while I am being tutored by Miss Morris, our neighbour.

Alisha was yelled at by Mother. I had to see what was going on, but Mother shooed me off and murmured, "go write about this little beast in that diary of yours." I was revolted! So I threw a mini fit and told her to go slap her own face, which I thought was quite funny. Anyways, I just thought about how I'd be apart from Lydia and Molly. They live far from here. Our schoolhouse is fifteen minutes away by wagon, but walking is at least twenty-five minutes. My horse Upaek is happy to have me ride him to the schoolhouse on the weekdays, luckily. I must go, supper is ready!
