Axis kookaburras
sentinel-settle.
Stahlhelmed* and goggled, they fear little.
They begin to chortle loud-arrogant.
Lordly. Masterly. Insulting.
Had they hands, they would be rubbing them
expectantly.
What are you two
up to?
You nest-raiding meat-eaters
you pterodactyl-types.
Why land here?
Mudlarks going spare while swallows spitfire-roll
worry gracefully airfoil chandelle*
chitter delicate-elegant
attempt futile rebuff. Then float away.
Now
Lancaster magpie Merlin-threatens.
Captain Solo.
He yaws dead sticks* blindsides
drives raiders off.
They hot start* - skedaddle.
Well, well,
I've often wondered why you opportunistic carnivores
never settled near.
I've heard your territory-claiming chuckles
echo-provocative
sound thrown back by the conducting pines.
Co-ordinated attacks have kept you
away, huh?
My eyebrows raise -
I didn't know the birds on my farm
had allied - apparently so.
Well.
No harm done. All gotta eat.
Go rustle up some snakes, you freeloading
pirates
you pit-bull-headed, heavy-beak-bayonetted
scavengers.
We look after our own
here.
*Stahlhelm (plural Stahlhelme) is German for "steel helmet".
*Chandelle: A very steep climbing turn where the airplane makes a 180° change of direction.
*Dead Stick: A term used to describe unpowered flight (glide) when the engine quits running.
*Hot Start: An engine which has been running will tend to remain hot for a short time. During this period, it is possible to restart the engine by turning the crankshaft without the glow plug being plugged in to a glow starter. This is something to be aware of, as it could possibly create an unsafe condition.
