The Ravens

Prologue

AN: Story inspired from Tap Chan's Ravens published Dec 2006. Borrowed directly some lines from him as his description of them is perfect.

Have you heard about Ravens?

Familiar of evil, Messengers of gods, Tricksters, Fallen Angels, Cursed Demons, Immortals. They form part of mythology and folklores alongside the Vampires and the Werewolves.

But what are they really?

An old race of shape shifters, considered to be extinct already. Dubbed as the kings of the sky, they are capable of flying into the rays of the sun, over the ocean and into the eye of the storm. They were gifted with longevity but each century has shown dwindling numbers.

The Ravens has broken the sacred rule of Brotherhood. Blood spilled, Division flourished, sides taken, war erupted and massacre happened. And because of that massive massacre, they are further punished by the LawMakers. An increase in number of male species being born year after year, has made it almost impossible for the race to survive, as reproduction can only happen between a female and a male. Many of their members eventually succumb to madness and death after failing to find their mates.

A Raven can only mate once.

One only has a century to find his mate and the failure to do so will result to death due to madness.

Tonight, the moon is in all its glory. Its soft white light covers the beach. Humans call this the super snow moon.

Up in the sky, the sound of flapping wings can be heard. Only massive size of wings can produce this sound.

The sound ceased to a halt and a dark shadow descended on the balcony. His massive wings in the color of onyx retracted behind his back and he silently opened the door, interrupting the stillness of the mansion.

Dylan can feel that he is running out of time. He's approaching his last few years before he became a centenarian but until now he wasn't able to find his mate yet. He is starting to get worried.

One of the four royalties of his clan, he cannot afford to die as this will end his bloodline. He doesn't know how he will ever find her. His brothers has told him that you will just know.

Darren found Annie on that one winter he spent in Canada. That while he is flying in the vastness of the mountains, he saw her. Annie is so surprised to see another one of her kind. She didn't hesitated when he invited her to be his lifetime partner.

Annie has a younger sister, Sun Qian. They survived a homicide after Annie had learned how to fly at the tender age of eight.

Female ravens' wings appear once they start their period. The moment her father saw her wings, he wasted no time in training her. That when the attack they have been expecting for quite some time took place, Annie bravely took her baby sister as she flies into the night. Annie has the ability to fly without a sound. This is how she and her sister managed to escape.
