It was a very quiet morning as a finished my short story about a girl abducted by her own loneliness, I'm not sure if it's more tragic or terrifying because it's both really. Once I send it to my professor I close my MacBook and focus more on the T.V. in front of me. Displayed is Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, my love for this movie never seems to dwindle but only grow each time I watch it.
" You are mine.. and only mine. Don't forget it" Christian whispers in Ana's ear and it sends chills throughout my body. How my heart aches for someone to come along and love me like Christian does Ana. Soon I am taken from my thoughts to answer my phone, the vibrations travel through the counter top with ease.
"Hello?" My voice is soft as I pause the movie in front of me.
"Mia, I am so glad you're up. I have a huge favor to ask of you, please say yes." Paisley's voice fills my ears in an exhausted and sickly tone. I met Paisley my second day in Seattle, we lived in a dorm together our first year in Uni. She was always so bright, bubbly, and outgoing. The complete opposite as myself.
"Good morning to you to Paisley, what's this favor you are in dire need of ?" I hear a slight giggle on the other side of the phone and very shortly some coughing after. She's sick and Paisley NEVER gets sick. I've only seen her sick once before and that was when she got a terrible case of food poisoning.
"I'm sick and I need you to get me medicine. Pretty please, for me?" Her voice tries to range into her normal tone and more coughing comes about. I sigh and tell her I'll be there shortly. "Oh thank you, thank you Mia! I love you and see you soon."
"Love you too, bye" Another sigh escapes my lips as I slip off the stool, looking at the paused image on the T.V. "Laters baby." Is whispered from my lips as I walk into my bedroom, my feet sinking into the plush off-white carpet. I decided to wear my red summer dress since the sun was actually shining today. My black sandals and black sheer cardigan compliment my dress and skin tone perfectly. The leather of my 2014 Nissan Rouge is warm from sitting in the sun. My drive to the drug store is simple and quick, not many people are out this early in the morning and most kids are in school by now. A parking spot is easy to acquire due to the lack of people this morning. I am welcome by a cool breeze that escapes as I walk into the store making my way to the medicine aisle. Tylenol, Benadryl, and NyQuil fill my basket and I continue to look around. There's not many people in the store, maybe five customers including myself. My nose leads me to where the perfume is kept, while my eyes lead me to my favorite perfume. Obsession by Calvin Klein finds its way into my hands, the cool glass bringing back memories of my childhood.
"Excuse me?" The deep voice of a man makes me startle, pulling me out of my trance. The bottle falls out of my hands, glass shattering on the floor. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I look up from the broken glass my eyes meet a dark shade of emerald green.
"It's quite alright, I shouldn't be daydreaming in the middle of the store." The words escape in a whisper and I feel my cheeks turn red.
"I'll pay for the perfume, and a new bottle. After all it's kinda my fault." He gives me a grin and heads up to the front with the new bottle. I stand in shock and awe for a few moments before I snap back to reality. Rushing up front but realizing I'm too late as he signs the little pin pad screen.
"You didn't have to buy the perfumes, I should learn to have a better hold on things that are fragile." The blush is still very much intact with my cheeks as I reach him. I put the few items in the basket on the counter and begin to pull out my wallet. "Please let me pay you back.." My fingers shake a little while trying to open my wallet quickly.
"There's no need; however, please feel free to call me." His voice is filled with control, almost as if he is demanding me to call him. He lays a business card on the counter next to the bag of perfume. The look of shock falls upon my face as he walks out the door. The cashier has already rung up my other items and looks frankly quite annoyed with me for 'wasting' his precious time.
"That'll be 19.57." The dullness in his voice has me internally roll my eyes, while my face gives a polite smile as I remove my card and stick it back in my wallet, grabbing the two bags on my way out. Remembering to pick up the business card as well. I rest the two bags in the passenger seat while I examine the business card from this mystery man. Bennet Powell ... CEO of Powell medical. My face drains of color and all of a sudden I feel cold. I just met the man who supplies my career field. The drive to Paisley's felt very long and spacey. Once I hear the honk from the lock activating I step into the small 2 bedroom house.
"Hey sicky, I'm here to save you." My sandals are kicked off onto the rug and I make my way up the small stair case. My palm presses the solid wood door opening to a ragged looking Paisley. A small giggle escapes my lips as I walk towards her bed. "Well don't you look like a princess who needs saving, like Anna from frozen when she sleeps." I crack a smile and she frowns at me.
"Well love you too shit head.." She blows her nose throwing the dirty tissue on the nightstand where a pile has started to grow. While laying out her options of drugs she smiles and instantly picks the Tylenol and Benadryl. "What would I do without you?"
"Probably die," we both start to laugh but soon stop once she starts coughing again. "Is Zack at work? " Zack is her fiancé; they should be married by now but Zack does some dumb stuff and he lost his job a year ago, so paying for a wedding became a little difficult. He recently just got a new job a few months ago.
"Yeah, he should be home in about an hour though. It was a short shift day. How have you been? And thank you again for going to the store, I really appreciate it." She gives me a sincere smile and I return one to her.
"You're welcome love; I've been good, writing and studying all the time. Mr. Taylor has been keeping me busy as well, tomorrow he wants me to attend a family court case with him. I don't really care to go, but money is money." I shrug and brush it off.
"Has he asked you out yet? We both know he has heart eyes for you and he is definitely an attractive man." Her eyebrows wiggle and my eyes roll.
"For the thousandth time, I refuse to date my boss. It is completely unprofessional and it's especially a no since he is a lawyer. A good one at that. He does want to take me out to dinner tomorrow night though, I politely declined." Her smirk turns into a quick frown.
"Mia, you are so beautiful. You deserve to have someone spoil you. Mr. Taylor would be more than capable to do so. However, I do understand the boss perspective. It does make sense. But Mia, the meds are starting to kick in and I'm a few minutes away from passing out. Thank you love for bringing me meds." I smile and tuck her in, making sure to lock the door on my way out. My engine purrs as I look over the business card that Bennet gave me, should I call him?
After I put the card down the drive to my apartment is smooth but my head is full of self inflicted questions over Bennet. As I open the door I realize I left my tv on, I toss my keys and purse on the counter. The gloss business card finds its way back to my hands. Before I know it I'm dialing the number.
