We all have a close group of girl friends. Some meet in high school, some in middle school. But, ever since kindergarten, Adara, Alyssa, and I have been inseparable.
I've always found it hard to make friends. It was my first day of school and I was quite nervous. Everyone around me seemed excited but I was dreading every moment of the start of my schooling career. I decided to sit on the mat where everyone else was sitting when Adara George sat next to me.
"You have really pretty hair," she said as she ran her perfectly soft hands through my dark brown hair.
"Thanks," I smiled. She stopped playing with my hair.
"You're welcome," she smiled too. "I'm Adara, by the way." she introduced herself.
"I'm Alexa," I introduced myself too. Adara looked around and then stood up. She extended her hand and I took it. "Where are we going?" I asked, but Adara didn't answer. I continued to follow her to an adorable little girl with curly brown hair.
"Hey," Adara sat next to her. The girl smiled a broad smile.
"Hi," she spoke. She wasn't shy at all, but rather outspoken. "I'm Alyssa. What are your names?"
Adara looked at me and then back at Alyssa.
"I'm Adara and that's Alexa. She doesn't speak much. I think she's a mute." Adara teased and I furrowed my brows.
"I'm not mute. I speak plenty," I tried defending myself, which wasn't much considering my extremely high pitched voice.
"Well then start talking, Alexa. Or you can't be in our group." her lips formed a straight line.
"Don't be mean. I'm pretty sure she's just nervous, right?" Alyssa looked at me.
"Yeah," I said softly. Adara rolled her eyes.
"Okay, Alexa. You can stay. But only because you're pretty." Adara said, as if I wasn't welcome in the first place. I don't know why I felt accepted or why I even fell for Adara's controlling ways, but I learned to love her.
Kindergarten was a breeze and the three of us always stuck together. We had sleepovers, hung out on weekends, and became closer than ever. The teachers even gave us a name: The Triple As. Ever since then that's been our name. We've made friends along the way, but neither of them came close enough to be one of us-- especially if their name didn't start with an A.
