The Heartbreak

Nosa checked himself one last time in the mirror, he knew he looked good, he picked up the small box on the vanity table, tonight he was going to make Ada his fianceé. He knew by tomorrow it was going to be all over the news, the life of a celebrity.

He got into his car and drove out. He couldn't keep the smile on his face. When he got to her house. He held the door handle, and surprisingly the door was unlocked. Weird,  Ada is all big on security being a celebrity herself she knew the dangers of leaving her door open.

He walked into the living room and saw glasses of unfinished wine and an empty bottle of red wine.

He opened her bedroom door and saw something that made him wish he had never come to her house. There laid Ada on top of her gateman.  The shocked look on her face was enough for Nosa to know that she never expected to be caught in the act.

"Baby, it's not what it looks like." Really, she was going with that line. How pathetic.

"It's definitely what it looks like." He shook his head as he walked out of her house.  He couldn't believe what had happened to him.

Somewhere on the mainland.

  "Tega, what do you think about these designs?"  Isoken asked.

"I think they are great, you know you always come up with new and crazy designs every day." He replied her, pulling her closer to himself.

"Can you guys stop with all the smooching, you make me want to puke. It's not like you guys don't have all the time in the world for that." Lara said making a face at them.

"You know what, I won't mind spending forever with you." He said going down on one knee, while holding a small box in his hand. Gasps were heard coming from both girls.

"Isoken Emerald Osazee, will you marry me?" So shocked she couldn't utter a word but she simply nodded her head.   He slipped the ring down her middle finger and she pulled him up for a kiss.

After a few minutes, they broke the kiss.

"I order a cake a while ago, as my backup plan. I guess we could use that to celebrate."

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Isoken opened the door shocked to see that the cake delivery guy was her ex-boyfriend, Shola.  This day was taking a bad turn.

"So you are the one the cake was ordered for, who is the unfortunate man that wants to get married to you.  Ha, bros so it is you, take heart oh, it's not too late to run" He said causing her to turn to see Tega standing at her back.

"What's going on here?" Tega asked looking confused.

"Baby, don't believe anything he is saying, he is lying, he is my ex-boyfriend, we dated when I was at uni."

"Bros look here, this girl you are seeing here so, she can't keep her legs closed. She goes running from man to man."

"Haba, stop lying were you not the one who was always cheating on me, I caught you twice. Why are you trying to ruin the good thing that has happened in my life? If them send you com, tell them say you no see me. " Tega looked from Shola to her then back to Shola again. He slipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a five hundred naira note and gave it to him

"Thank you. You can leave now." Shola took the money and left not even sparing her a glance. By now tears were already flowing down her face, God what did she do to deserve this sort of embarrassment?

"Tega, please I beg you.  I never cheated on him and I will never cheat on you."

"Why should I believe you that how all you Lagos babes are like now? You go get the main one then you go com get the sidebae in case if one no work make you get backup. I'm sorry but I don't think I can marry you." He gently removed the ring from her finger, carried the cake then walked out of the house leaving her crying. 

"Babe, I'm so sorry, I always knew that Shola guy was a jerk but I never knew he was this much of a jerk. Tega takes the cake literally, the biggest asshole of the year." Lara tried to console her but to no avail. She gently took her hand and led her to the sofa so she could sit. Suddenly a phone started ringing.  It was Tega's. The caller Id said Blessing. Isoken picked up the call.

"Hello, Tega when you want take land Warri na, see the money way you send last week don finish oh. I use am take buy foodstuff and pampers, shey you dey hear your pikins them their voice for background money no dey. Do make you com house oh."  Isoken was so shocked she couldn't say a word she just let the phone fall from her hand. This was the same guy that accused her of cheating while he had children.  She didn't know whether to cry or laugh. Maybe Shola's visit was a blessing in disguise.  Only time could tell if she would ever heal from this heartbreak.
